Absolutely. It would also help to use punctuation and capitalization so we can tell where one sentence ends and the next begins. A huge paragraph that is essentially one long sentence is hard to read for many of us. Lately I find myself skipping over posts like this because the effort I must put into it to read it is not worth it. If the posters want their threads and posts to be read by others they should put in at least minimal effort to make them comprehensible.
Ok great help in the english aspect, even though I was not aware I was here to learn correct grammer. Anyway grammer lesson learned, I will ensure I do my best to make sure that the people who need it will be able to understand. Back to the topic at hand though, I just went to my bank, and they did not have any half dollars, or ike dollars at all. Maybe better luck next time. I do believe that is the way i will go, searching bank rolls for the 40% and 90% coins, build up a little cash and then try to come back to square one, what coins to start out with. But this time with more cash to spend. Thank you very much Model77

The problem with asking other collectors what to collect and advice is, you would get a different answer from each person. I think the best thing you can do is look around online and on this forum. Pick one or two series that you would like to work on and focus on those. Its okay to get sidetracked once in awhile. Some people look through rolls and rolls of coins searching for silver or errors. Some like to go out and just buy the coins they like. You really have to come to terms on how to collect by yourself. But by all means look around and learn about what to look for before you go out and spend tons of money. And one last thing. You really have to enjoy collecting coins to get into the hobby.
My advice would be to buy a redbook. Find a set that poses a challenge but is not impossible. One good one is a set of Franklins in decent condition. A Franklin half cost about $11. They are silver. Which goes up. There are no high dollar dates and you could find them in your local coin dealers case. To get a complete set will cost about $380. Getting a complete will boost the price up. Another set is a 2 cent collection. There not alot of money. The catch is you'll have to buy them on eBay. Well that's my advice. The biggest piece of advice I could give you is HAVE FUN!!!!
Since you appear to like many things, after doing a little time roll searching, you might look into a type set. I jumped straight into one when I started and picked up a bunch of junky coins, but had a collection of things back to the early 1800s. Then I started picking up slabbed coins of nicer quality and have been working on a new type set of nicer things. During all of this, I discovered that I really enjoy nickels and have been working on full sets of all of them. The point is, what you like now may change, so I'd recommend not loading up on things of inferior quality, otherwise you'll want to dump them at a loss.
Hello, I started collecting about 2 years ago and the first thing I ever started collecting was lincoln cents. I went to my local coin shop and bought all three of the lincoln cent folders and those were the first type of coins I collected. I started their because most of them are cheap to collect, my local coin shop sells common date wheat pennies for 5 cent each and im still today filling them up. After that I found that I like buffalo Nickels, also still filling that folder up. Now depending on what you like ofcourse will be what you should collect, im just telling you how I started. Now just recently I got a redbook which just about tells you what every U.S coin is worth, I really wish I would of got one of those earlier so I could of made some better deals. You want a red book so you know exactly what your buying. The most important thing is to dont rush into it, have fun and dont be in it to make money because then it will be no fun. But at the same time you dont want to be upside down in your collection. Hope this was helpful and remember always have funn doing it because after all it is a hobby. ~Corbyn
When you say valuable and rare coins for cheap, that make's me think of problem coins. Once a problem coin always a problem coin. Think quality not quantity. You have a lifetime to collect there is no need to rush and buy problem coins because they're cheap. There is a reason they are cheap and always will be cheap. The use of rare is extremely overused. IMO a rare coin is something with a survival rate of less than 100
thanks for the in put this is all I really needed just some ideas i guess on what others did to get started, I believe i will start roll searching, that seems like it would be most fun because of the "hunt". also thanks for the info on rare vs high grade, I never thought of it like that. i have a redbook I have had coin books for over a year now reading up before i started on this journey. So to most of you here thanks for your advice, tips, and experiences. But ya'll make sure to check your GRAMMAR and spelling here, it looks to me like we have two people on here that are having trouble understanding, and knowing when to pause to take a breath when reading if you dont tell them when to......... stop breath..... Even though chances are they are reading to to them selfs and not out loud.
i am the one being some what maded fun of for the spelling not being correct, or not having periods where i should, and not spacing out my long comments. I dont get it honestly i came here for advice with coin collecting not a english teacher. i know im not the best in that area but its easy to know what i am saying. **** i think any way everyone else seems to get the point
seems either some of these guys are just so smart they cant make it without pointing out mistakes. or and what i think they are actually so stupid they dont know they need to take a breath unless the see a period
You'll learn some people are superior But don't expect to have people hold their breath through the whole writing. As for the 'investment', I'd be doing some research on ebay market trends. Nothing is gonna come cheap but just wait and the deals will come to you.
Don't sweat the little things. You have to learn to accept the fact that some people will always be that way. If it wasn't you they were complaining about, it would be someone else. Chris
I wouldn't get on people too much if you want to continue to get help here. They just pointed out what a lot of people think but probably didn't take the time to post themselves. It should be considered a common courtesy on a forum to use decent grammar, punctuation, spacing and paragraphs. It should be natural anyway if you post on forums a lot. It also somewhat reflects on the intelligence of the poster. It's important in order to convey your message and be taken seriously. You act like people get a kick out of being the "grammar police" on a forum because they certainly don't have anything else better to do! When somebody opens a thread and the original post looks like a mess, it's not going to be taken seriously by most people. When I post something, I usually re-read it before I post and after I post to make sure I didn't screw something up. Then edit if necessary. If the red underline shows up under a miss-spelled word, you can right click on it and select the proper spelling from the list. It's idiot proof. It also seems there are a lot of "drive-by" posters that are not good listeners but love to start thread after thread themselves. Without thinking that the topic just may have been covered a million times already. Half the time, there's better info to be found using the search function because many people don't want to re-hash and re-type what they spent time on a month ago.
