Last year or maybe 2 years ago we started a District Currency Collectors Group. I was just wondering who is still in it and where everyones collections are at? I hope to re-kindle my quest to complete the NY Set's I have going. So let me know if you do not mind and we can try to fill some gaps in these efforts!!
Thanks Rick! You know I'm still in it and working on my St.Louis notes. I'm certainly glad to see you are back and helping to revive some interest in this challenge a handfull of us have set for ourselves. It has been a little quiet on the frontier, but I think some are still silently working on their collections. Urban, hopefully the winds will change and you will find a renewed passion to aim for! A new direction in collecting could be around the corner. I'm real sorry to see your notes going, they were a fine collection! Hang in there! Last year on January 15th, I did the same thing for this group by putting the feelers out to see who was still working on their districts. Here's the link to the 2011 District Currency Collectors Group as it stood at that point in time. Others interested or contemplating joining us can peruse the pages of that thread and perhaps glimpse some of the notes that might still be posted there to get an idea of the direction we each decided to focus on.
Urban... I saw your thread o the sale of your collection...I know how much of an ill feeling and how hard that is to do. I wish you the best! District Collectors...I know we had a good group of guy's and some very nice collections going. It is hard to keep things from changing and if they did not change it would be a boring place. I am proud to have been among those who began such a task and present a challenge to those who are new here to embrace the thought of such a feat! I will continue to add to the New York Small Size Collection as time passes and look forward to scanning all the notes and presenting here in the future( it's a lot of work scanning these things) I hope that perhaps we can once again continue this as a group if we can get folks to commit to it again...we shall see. I for one know the completion of complete District set's in all blocks and stars is a daunting task as well as expensive..some blocks are just plain hard to locate and costs can rise quickly. Keep up the good work and I hope to see additions as we move on...is there a current listing of folks showing what district they want to collect anywhere that is fairly recent?
Rickie , I'm still on the search for the Atlanta District (among other notes) and will be as long as I'm able . Haven't really bought a whole lot but have bought a few notes here and there . I'll try to get some pics up for you and others to take a gander at . Thanks for starting the District Collectors Group , it is fun to search out things to plug away in the collection . Glad you're back and doing better , I have thought about you quite a bit and even sent up quite a few prayers for you brother . The nephews AML came back and he's still fighting it like a trooper . Anyway thanks again for what you do and what you have done to inspire me and spark others who may not have been currency collectors . You are an asset to our Hobby !! Hope you stick around here for a while, we need you around !!
My collection is still there and growing (slowly). And with our fearless leader (RickyB) back I'm sure we will have a growing budding group again.
I think the link in my last post is the most recent but we could pull that list into this thread and update it if yyou like.
Duke: I am not so sure on the "fear less leader" part...I will be rather slow in my return to collecting as the illness it took an awful lot out of me. I still have to return next month to be checked out and I pray that no additional burning is required...it is a pain that is very hard to describe. Just imagine everytme you swallow a sip of water you cry out in agony! I still love currency collecting so much and keep tabs on notes that I need that just may happen to show their face once in a while...since the major part of my collection has been sold last year I look to add selective pieces to a new Large Size Collection. I am back in the gym slowly working toward some level of fitness again...being a former Marine, that is engrained into my genes! I must say that I spend quite a bit of time on my personal auto project as I retro a 2009 Toyota Tacoma and working my way from the inside to the outside. Maybe I'll post a pic here as well. Back to the District Collectors....the New York Small Size Collection from 1928 thru current with denoms $1 thru $1000 including Stars has grown some...the $5 segment of this only requires 16 notes to complete..mostly older stars and some light green seal mules. We will see how this progresses as my eye is on a few up at auction. The 34C Sets including Stars for the $5, $10, $20 and $50 denoms is growing still and most of the stars are demanding nice premiums that are in the grades I seek. I will be happy to follow in the group but not in any shape to lead it...:smile Sincerely,
