I'm not big into Peace Dollars, but I'll snatch one up if I see a good deal. Anyway, I don't really know how to grade them that well so I'd like some help with this 1927 S. I'm gonna say MS 62-63 Thank you so much!
I'm not big into peace dollars either, too bad about the marks on her face but that is still a nice looking coin.
Your grades are fair... May sway closer to MS63, IMO. It'd be a good lookin' Dansco coin, if that's what you had in mind. What's the seller's asking price? (I'm assuming you haven't purchased the coin because you aren't speaking in the preterite) -Brian
It is mine. I picked it up today. I got a VERY good deal on this one. I'll just say it was under $200 and keep you guessing.
Very nice! :thumb: Do you plan on sending it off to PCGS? Looks like it'd be a good candidate for a submission... -Brian
Planning to take this coin to my local shop today to either sell or trade for a nice Morgan. How much should I expect him to offer me for this coin? Would $300-350 sound about right? I'd bet we would both agree it's a 63. Please helpme with a ballpark. Thanks
The problem is that the coin is not graded. I seriously doubt that a dealer would offer you that much. Heres an MS-63 on eBay with a BIN of $350: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1927-S-silv...75?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1e6b34ff1f Now yours could be a 63, or maybe it could be a 62. Unless your dealer is willing to take a chance, I think he'll low-ball you. However, you probably would do better with a trade.
I would say 61-62. I would be very surprised if a dealer offered more than $200. Don't get me wrong...it's a nice enough coin. But dealer's have to mark up to make a profit and the coin is raw and not exceptional. During the 3-4 days in 1921 when high relief peace dollars were struck the Mint quickly concluded that it could not continue for future years. Dies were breaking due to the extreme pressure needed to strike up the coins. The design did not lend itself to ideal metal flow. Prominent devices are opposite one another. So a decision was made, after lots of failed experiments with different relief, to strike all future years dollars with a lower relief design. New hubs were created. Lettering on both sides was made broad and flat. Both obverse and reverse lettering and numerals were poorly defined. Device high points were flat. It's really too bad how things turned out. I love the design but there are lots of compromises. Lance.
I think I'm going to put it on eBay in the next couple weeks and see what happens. Hopefully I'll get enough to buy a nice slabbed Morgan toner.
