My review of Modern Coin Mart... (Issue Resolved)

    The issue that vdbpenny1995 had with ModernCoinMart has been resolved amicably for both parties, and vdbpenny1995 requested this thread be edited to reflect the resolution of the story as well as the original issue.


    Wow, I have never seen a worst company to deal with then Moderncoinmart(DOT)com. There customer service is awful. more than 4 weeks ago I order 9 coins for $306. I never got them so I email a rep and he asked for an order number. I sent him my invoice and said they are no records for you sale and the invoice I said him was a really good fake. so I sent him my cell number to talk thru it. Through out the call he called me a liar several times, said I must have the wrong company and that Im trying to cheat them out of some money. He then proceded to say that since the billing adress has my name and the credit card has a different name (It was my parents) that thats illegal and should report me. He then said hes the only one at work just for me to solve this problem and maybe 5 seconds after I heard many people lalughing in the backround and when I told him, he said that there was just 1 other person which was obviously a lie. Then When the rep calls me apologize, I asked if I could get free shipping and he laughs and says absolutely not and that we are selling these coins at a huge loss. When I asked him why they would do that he then told me he was going to cancel my order now. After saying that I was just wondering he still said hes cancelling it right now even though he said they were shipped a week ago. He finally said I was lucky they were getting sent to me since I was so ungrateful.

    Sorry for the vent but this is the WORST company I have ever dealt with in all my years. PLEASE, if you are shopping around do not deal with them. I have heard lots of bad reviews but thought howcould this go wrong...... well.... I was wrong.

    ****EDIT: Thanks for all the responses. I just wanted to say it is really the customer service and the sale dept.

    I have never heard other than great things about them and that is from a large number of people. The behavior you described does not sound at all like them.
     
  5. Sorry this happened to you. I have ordered from them several times and have had no issues. Only once they forgot to include something in my shipment. I called customer service, they were very pleasant, and took care of it right away. This is the first negative I have ever heard about them. TC

    :eek: wow thats nuts !!! but i won a usa $5.00 gold eagle ngc ms70 on facebook about a month ago, sorry for you dealing with them :eek:

    No offense meant, but I don't like to pass judgment on a firm based upon one side of the story. I know you wrote what you feel, but many times there is something else going on that can change opinions. If this is what happened and there was nothing else going on about the transaction, of course I feel for you. I am just saying its possible that the credit card was denied so therefor the order cancelled, or many other things that they know about that could have colored this story.

    My only dealings with them was a low offer they gave me for some coins, but that is cool profit needs to be made. I simply walked away in that case. I am just saying maybe it would help if a dealer here could talk to MCM on your behalf and find out just why you were treated so poorly. On the selling side I had never heard bad things about them, (of course most smart firms treat those wishing to buy well :)).

    Just my opinion and again no disrespect meant. We have just had too many one sided stories that when the other side posts it changes the story a lot.

    Sounds like a bad rep, not a bad company. I have dealt with them and made returns and exchanges, more than once. Stellar customer service each time. I do however dislike MCM as competition when ordering popular items from the Mint web site on release day. It's x(#) per household, not per company. ;)

    IF what you relate is true, I think that John Maben would be interested in hearing your story since behavour such as what was described has no place in the business world.

    I have to agree with Mark and the others. I've made a number of orders from MCM and never had any problems as you describe. It certainly would be out of character for them.

    I will try to reach John and I know a lot of you are shocked to hear this and maybe think im twisting the truth a bit (I can understand, to you in just some random person on the internet) but i swear im not.

    I have had one transaction with them (MCM) and had absolutely no problems.
    The coin was exactly as described and sent promptly.

    I've bought about a dozen times from them through ebay.

    There was only ever one problem (the coin wasn't sent). The guy who called me to straighten it out was kind of aggressive, but he did get the coin shipped and I continue to do business with them. In fact, I sought their table out at the FUN Show this month and made a purchase there.

    To vdbpenny1995. At ModernCoinMart, we pride ourselves on customer service. We try to handle each customer with the same level of care and diligence that we, ourselves would expect from other companies. We do a fantastic job at this. It is one of the biggest reasons we have been able to succeed in the coin business for so many years. We do a great deal of business with many different parties, many hundreds of transactions a day. And unfortunately, when managing that type of volume things do happen and we do make mistakes. We are human. With that said, I would like to address some of the things you mentioned.

    Your order was not placed 4 weeks ago, but 2 weeks ago on January 2nd 2011. Due to a glitch in inventory, in order to fill your order we had to go out and buy more coins at a higher price than what we had sold them to you for. Instead of canceling your order we accepted a loss in order to fill your order. In addition we went out and bought the particular series you had ordered with Early Releases labels instead of the Regular Brown NGC label, which you had ordered. We offered those to you at the same price despite the fact that they cost us more. In addition, no one told you that your coins had shipped a week ago and no one called you "ungrateful." We simply offered you the option of canceling your order, we did not force it up on you as you had suggested we did.

    As many of our customers know, we conduct ourselves with integrity and professionalism on a daily basis. It is for this reason that we have such a high rate of return customers. We hope that our loyal customers are not thrown by the derogatory statements mentioned by vdbpenny1995. We're glad to see a young person collecting coins and think that as this one matures he will learn not to jump down an honest businesses throat and make damaging remarks.     I have dealt with these people before & have had no issues. Its always easier to judge a person, or company in this case, when you get both sides of the story not just the disgruntled side. Moderncoinmart thanks for sharing & defending you side of the story. Vdbpenny1995 sounds like the company went out of their way to fill your order at there expense. Maybe you can contact them again & start over? As a business owner, sometimes its almost impossible to please all customers. There seems to be customers that can not be pleased no matter what the company does. Interesting post.

    I must add that in my short time here at CT, I have never seen any other complaints about MCM.

    I have never done business with MCM, either, but one bad review would not make me not consider them.

    I hope that this thread does not become a nasty argument like others have.

    I appreciate you writing to me here. I don't want to get into an argument since that would get us no where, but I just was upset at Jason F since he treated me so poorly and when I asked you if could get free shipping you laughed at me and said no way. Then when I asked why would you be selling these coins at a loss you threatened to cancel my order... You could have said because we want to satisfy our customers but you would cancel my order... I admit I might be a little overboard on my post since I just really have a problem with your salesman and you and not the company as a whole.

    I don't see it as you being a bad customer. I would be upset too, if someone called me a liar and a cheat. I see it as one of those unfortunate things that happen in the course of business. As a customer there will be times, where you are not treated right. As a business owner, you can't make everyone happy 100% of the time. I think we all do our best to avoid this but sometimes, crap happens. Although, there are always 2 sides to every story, I understand vdb's frustration. I've been there with other online businesses.

    hi did you by chance record that call?? you should call them back , make sure you note the rep you spoke to and the have them state there name and id # and note the time and date...
