Hi ace, my favorite topic...the 7070! I cannot tell you how to fill it. What I will say is how I did it. I started by filling it with high grade example for the less expensive ones. The prices are all over the board for the coins in this album, obviously. So the more common ones, I bought high-end ones to fill it with. I saved the most expensive ones for last. I have not completed it yet since the last 6 or 7 are very pricey (for me). What I won't do are buy very low quality or holed ones for the remaining coins. I am taking my time, saving my money, and will purchase the best grade I can afford. There is no rush to complete it. Not to mention, the trade dollar, early bust halfs and quarters etc, are highly counterfeited. So those are best purchased in person from a dealer or a show. Good luck!
As far as key dates go, that is a personal choice. I went more for eye appeal and pricing. Some are proofs, etc..

my 7070 is here if you want to check it out. http://www.thecoinnection.com/public/members/member_album_detail.php?a=107&gui=fa8b59be-aa7f-11e0-adbf-00304832a8d2

Ace, I would think long term you will be happier with fewer but nicer coins. With that in mind I would do exactly what Gbroke does, take your time, buy nice coins in your eyes, and don't fill it up with hole fillers just for the sake of completing it.

Always remember, if you don't love a coin the day you buy it, its not going to grow on you, if anything you will dislike it more and more over time.

tell me how odd this sounds to you, when added all the coins to fill the album it came to a total of $17,640 and thats without adding any of the gold in it. mind you that price is for either keys, semi keys, or just ms coins. shooting to high?

I'm starting a 7070 for 2012..I only have a few common dates/coins, but I'm shooting for a full album by this time next year - no gold coins. I'm going for hole fillers or the best grade I can afford, in that order.
I can always upgrade/trade/sell as I go, but by Jan 2013 hopefully it's complete!

haha i'm not going to drop 17 grand tommorow on coins to fill the whole album. but i would say in a years time everything but the gold will be filled atleast i hope and thats to say things go as planned this year. i have a few coins on my list already, 1877 ihc, 1885 v nickel and an 1876 trade but those are in g4 but doubt ill try to go to higher grades for them

im about 75% done with my 7070 and my mistake was starting the gold page... That gold page reeeeaaaaaaally set my back from the rest of the 7070 so dont start the gold page till your happy with the rest of your 7070.

I did this set several ways over the years. The one I liked the most was when I took the time to find coins that had a matching look. Not having any bright MS coins gave each page a much nicer look.

A type set is generally composed of coins that are common dates for the issue.

To me a type set is a way to show others what the coins were intended to look like.
Thus I tend to want better grades.
Originally I was after XF or better for my set.
Now that all I need are coins from the 1790's I've dropped a grade to VF.
    But that's it!
I've looked at coins graded Fine and they just don't do it for me.
Of course this means, short of winning the lottery, my type set will never be completed.

But the nice thing about a type set is that you can define your own content and quality.
It's your toy; you get to make the rules.

Personally I prefer to have a common date AU/MS Barber quarter than a G/VG 1913-S.

BTW, I use the NGC Registry Set definition of a type set rather than the Dansco 7070.
The NGC Registry Set is a bit more comprehensive.

Should have stuck with the 7070, it's cheaper.
