My dad and I recently came across some old coins. The first one I'm inquiring about is a 1824 hard times token. it has a boar on the obverse. I have yet to find information on the "T" mint mark, I was wondering if anyone had any information on that mint mark.

Maybe the T is a counterstamp. Pictures will really be needed to discuss further

***Also I forgot to ad, there never was a T mint mark

Thank you much. I figure that because the hard times tokens were not actually minted by the united states mints that maybe it was a mint of the actual person who minted it. I'll try to get pics up

The coin my dad gave me was a 1776 continental currency coin. The reverse has 13 circles with the 13 colonies in them. Copy is nowhere on the coin and I was wondering if there was a way to tell if it was fake or not. It looks time worn and it was with the hard times token which is authentic.

Still would need pictures but other ways to tell is you need to check the weight, and look on the edge of the coin, if theres a line going around it, that means its a cast copy.

There is a little information about Hard Times tokens on page 388 of the "Red Book".

Hard times tokens were from the 1830's and up.

Please post good photos of the Contenental Currency piece. This coin is very rare and expensive and is heavily counterfeited.

You might want to take a look on the forums on how to take pictures. Not the easiest thing as its a bit different than just clicking away.

We really need photos to be able to tell you anything. There are tons of different tokens out there and some are valuable ans some are not. As for the continental currency, there are far more fakes out there than real examples. We need photos to know what we are dealing with.

At this point I'm almost certain it's a fake, seeing as how there is an r counter-stamped on it. This would have been one of my museums highlights and now I feel like taking a hammer to it.

Post pictures of the coin before you do anything. Coins have been counter-stamped forever...it doesn't mean it's a fake. In all likelihood it's fake...but you clearly don't have the expertise to make that determination.

Your photos are not very good but the coin looks like a cast counterfeit.

Is everything reversed on the coin (like shown in the photos)?

BTW, you need to learn to hold your coins by the edges, not with your fingers on the faces of the coins (especially the genuine coins).

I don't claim to follow Hard Times tokens but the Running Boar HTT is dated1834, not 1824.

Can't comment on the mintmark. Hope someone comesalong who knows more about them. Good luck!
