I know there are many sites like PCGS, NGC but how much does it cost per coin? I am really cofused. Is there anyway you can get them done for free? What is the cheapest one? I live in Canada so they it would be shipped from Canada.

the cheapest would be either anacs or icg for ngc you have to be a member of the ana and for pcgs you have to be a member of pcgs its about 30 to have each coin slabbed from both pcgs and ngc but anacs is slightly cheaper dont forget they charge you return shipping also which isnt cheap. just go to their websites and look up their services and it will tell you how much most places charge less for modern coins than the older coins and they charge different prices for foreign coins as well

If you are in Canada and you want to get Canadian coins graded, there are two grading companies in Canada: ICCS and CCCS.
ICCS is highly respected among collectors of Canadian coinage.
I have several coins graded by CCCS also, and they seem properly graded.

Join NGC, cost $125 a year, and you get five FREE slabbings, (besides the cost of return shipping).

You most certainly do not have to belong to the ANA to submit to NGC.
ANA members have submission privileges to NGC as part of their membership.
Non-ANA members have to pay an annual fee to submit to NGC.

He means you can get five coins graded and put in holders (slabs) for free. The process of submitting a coin for grading and holdering is called slabbing.

You can look on their websites since it is impossible for us to answer that without knowing tier the coins would fall into. Both PCGS and NGC have membership options where the membership is free when you account for the value of the free submission vouchers.

Keep in mind that in addition to the grading fee, there will be costs involved with shopping both directions and submission fees - that $14 submission becomes $25 or more quickly. Just be aware of all of the fees involved.

I think the just because fee is up to $10 now. At least with PCGS.

Wow, I must admit I gave up the Kool Aid, it's usually cheaper to by the coin after someone else paid to get it slabbed.
But I must admit sometime I'll take advantage of ANACS specials.

The only way to get them done for free is to write the grade on them yourself, but there's relatively little market acceptance of that compared with the major grading services.

You shouldn't necessarily be looking for the cheapest service, either. If a coin graded by one company for $30 can be easily sold for $200, while the same coin graded by another company for $10 will only fetch $150, you're $30 behind going with the cheaper service.

Post some sample pictures of what you have and you'll get some better advice as to how you should proceed. Be aware that shipping from Canada to the US and back is going to be expensive.

    Howdy all,

Just some info to share about grading costs.

I found a coin that I like and I'd like to get it graded and slabbed. It's worth $10-$20, depending on which website, book or manual you look at and believe :)

So, I looked at PCGS. After figuring out all of their 'fees' form all the charts and graphs they have, this is what I came up with:

I'd need to become a 'Member' of PCGS, costing a minimum pf $69.00
I then would pay $20.00 for the grading service.
Then, I would pay $21.95 just to have the coin returned to me via insured priority mail.

This seems a bit steep to grade a coin that is estimated to be worth about $10 - $20 and since I've had no experience with submitting coins, I reached out to PCGS to verify my information. In addition, I asked if using the grading companies is exclusive to dealers of high volumes of coins, because it seems out of reach for new collectors.

    This was their response:

So far it's been 5 days and I haven't heard from them.

It's not going to be worth it for you to have a $10.00 to $20.00 coin graded.

Rule of thumb is a coins value should be around $150 at least to have graded at standard fees. You can also look into having a dealer who does bulk subs send it off for you but that can take a while to get back however it's very cheap. I'll bulk sub coins in the $50+ range in occasion because it'll only cost me around $6-10. A coin valued at $10-20 should NEVER be graded unless it's for sentimental reasons
