Almost all of this OP's posts are associated with questionable common sense and very controversial. You will find an unusual twist to his logic and truthfulness on all subjects he posts. (And there are many). I'm starting to wonder what his true nature and intent is. An alarm keeps going off everytime I see comments or questions from him. I apologize if I am reading more into this than I should, especially to him directly, because I don't show up as the greatest thinker myself in many posts. But take a look around at some of his paticipation and previous statements. Something is unsettling. Something is out of sync. IMHO.

I think a lot of it is just nipping questionable logic in the bud. I don't think there's any malice intended.

I'm not saying I blame you for doing it, I just pointed out that it IS against the eBay rules you agreed to abide by. Frankly the dealers are probably breaking the rules as well.

As I read the rules, it is not against eBay rules to sell it outside eBay. It is against their rules to make contact through eBay and then consummate the deal outside eBay, but I could find no rules barring the use of other sales venues. In fact, one of the reasons eBay presents for removing a listing is that the item is no longer available. Uhm, sold? If you can find such a rule, I would appreciate knowing about it.

I'm reacting to someone's comment that you should communicate with the seller prior to bidding if your payment will be delayed (my point being that I didn't know ahead of time).

I don't know if I had purchased from that seller before; I probably had between 100 and 150 feedbacks by then. I explained the nature of the problem, but getting Pay Pal to start making payments took longer than expected.

(Wells Fargo was my primary bank and I thought it would be easier if I opened up a small account with them that I could transfer funds to as necessary. First, they didn't believe that Pay Pal required a verified bank account because none of the tellers had encountered the restriction before. Then they wanted to restrict me to one checking account and one savings account [which I already had], saying that the account needed to be in the same name as my driver's license. Somewhere in the mix, I tried creating a new Pay Pal account and using it. Pay Pal reacted by clamping down on both accounts, making it more difficult to resolve. Fun times.)

    Edited to add:
As an aside, by the time I was able to pay, the seller had resold the item I purchased (a silver bar). Fortunately, they had substitutes and all I cared about was the weight, so everything worked out.

I hope both you and the seller learned from this. I don't think the seller deserved a negative fb for it at all seeing as you should have paid sooner, but that's your deal. Oh and bless your heart. :D

In 2009 I had my shop broke into twice in the same Sunday night by a group of high no good for nothings and they managed to steal my small safe with ebay listed items. Later they came back and took a try at the big safe. Police got them on that run but they had disposed of the Ebay items and other coins/currency. I had bids on about six of the items and had three awaiting Monday shipping. I had to contact the buyers and explain...but...I also included a Police report attachment. That made the difference and the buyers understood. Point is that surely a Police Report exists for any item of value claimed stolen and one who claims theft should offer such report as proof. Just my 2 cents.

This situation seems like 2 drivers , both running stop signs at a 4 way stop, no one hits each other, but one driver is irrate that the other ran a stop sign and wants to complain about him in the local newspaper. Both should consider themselves lucky as no real damage done, and they can ignore deals with each other from now on. Lets learn from this situation and go forward. Personally, after checking out the coin company, I would bid with them and do not feel they deserve a negative from the OP. Strickly my own opinion as a member.

Yea my experience so far is that they are a courteous and professional seller. I had to return an item due to a mistake by the seller, but it was an honest mistake which the seller admitted and sent me a return shipping credit.
I would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

I never done it. Is it against the rules to do this?

Or does ebay just advise against it, and claim the buyer protection is lost if the sale is consummated outside ebay?

    Well, here's the rule:

√ You can't offer to buy items you found on eBay without using eBay.
Items bought outside of eBay aren't covered by our policies, and you aren't protected against fraud. Sellers have to follow the same rule, and if a seller offers to sell you something outside of eBay, don't accept the offer.

It is definitely against their rules. If either offers to deal outside of eBay, the other can report it to eBay. However, if the seller happens to operate a store, anyone walking in off the street can buy the item without any consideration to eBay - unless someone can show the the buyer had seen the item on eBay, IMHO.

Ebay cannot punish someone for going thru with a deal outside of its venue, sure you can report the seller and if they get enough complains can terminate his account but that's about it.

    Basically, that's eBay's only recourse.

Well! Strange thread, but after reading it all, my take is that this was not the thing to do --- either as a buyer with no ebay history to back him up on leaving a negative when not paying when the amount was due, and then leaving a negative because of what was "said", or putting this up on CT as a deterrent for others to purchase from this seller, on only the "strength" of the OP's dissatisfaction with this transaction. Result, when all things weighed, OP ebay id has been blocked by me, so that if I should ever decide to sell again, his bid won't be accepted, and I am NOT going to boycott this seller (I have never purchased from seller before, and don't know if I will in future). Ebay takes some learning, and newbies to it need to give themselves some time before leaping off the deep end and lambasting the seller for no real reason. I have bought and sold on ebay and there have only been a couple times that either the seller or the buyer (depending on the situation) needed a negative or a neutral mark. No feedback should have been given if a sale was not consummated. NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON. Because no sale took place.

And then to come on to CT and display this as an example of when Negative fb is deserved???? IDK about this. Not right in my book.
