I see nothing What is your fascination with finding a doubled die? Most stuff you will find are deterioration or machine doubling. I find them unexciting. I gave up searching for them over 20 years ago.
Honestly, Pam, @paddyman98 makes a lot of sense. I hate to say it, but even if you do stumble on one, nobody cares, for one thing, other than hobby enthusiasts. None of these listed on Wexler or for that matter Variety Vista have any value to anyone outside of the real big ones except to enthusiasts who relentlessly pursue them but again purely as a hobby. They just like to find these, it's how they pass the time. If you're into that, we're not criticizing it, don't get us wrong. We're trying to say, don't get misled. If you like it as a hobby, keep them coming. Some are attracted by the possibility of getting them listed by Wexler or Variety Vista, it's a recognition thing. If that turns you on, that's your business, and by all means, go for it, get it on. In a way, it's fulfilling. Just don't be disillusioned into thinking these are worth anything, is all we're trying to say. The vast majority aren't, and just understand that. And of the ones that are, one doesn't need an investment in a microscope to see them.
Thanks Eddie. Appreciate it. I just post I guess because I find the S or the error or damage etc. I have no intention of selling. It’s dad’s ab Thanks a bunch Eddie. Appreciate it. I have no intentions of selling anything that can be possibly saved and interesting to my son. I guess I post for some that may find it interesting. Paddy has his 1955 he posted a couple of times… but no fascinations on coins. Not looking for a double or anything for that matter. I do not purchase coins for a hobby. Which is fine to purchase and if that’s someone’s hobby.. I understand. I appreciate you Eddie on how you explain it. But wow post something that is. It one’s cup of tea, just show up for the criticism and not advice. I have posted some interesting ones, now and then…. But it’s from my pile and ones from dad which will take me a while but that’s ok. I don’t mean this towards you. Thanks again Eddie
Not into any fascination. I look at coin by coin. You do your “hobbie” of searching. I’m just looking at my dad’s and mom’s. You appear for my bad items I post ready by to say it’s worthless. I don’t sell nor buy!
@PamR A tip for you Pam. While there are doubled dies across the entire series of Jefferson nickels, including at the word "Monticello", those would be earlier issues. Most of the modern doubled dies occur inside the main door on the reverse and above that in the triangle part of the door. Rarely are doubled dies found on Denver coins of the modern era as they have much better quality control than Philadelphia.
I see all your threads. Some are great others are ok. I'm not into any coins worth. After almost 37 years of collecting Mint Errors I have never been interested in their value or thought of selling any of them and I never have. Don't worry. I will try my best to stay off your threads. Enjoy what you do. Keep on searching and hopefully one day you will find a true and amazing doubled die. Have a Happy New year! Peace
No worries… but again, I’m not a collector. I have found chips, cracks… etc. Just learning it. If I were to sell any, some have commented to buy from Morgan’s, JFKs etc. All were my dad’s and most of them are all my dads from throwing them into a jar. Jars… Others my mom’s and my husband will pop in with some rolls as a surprise. It just seemed that I frustrated you and many coins fascinate me on all threads and that’s including yours of your finds on your weekends. Im no where near some collectors here and I do respect the hobby. I have denied some offers. I’m not here to sell or buy. Many come in to critique but state the good as well. But then again, my coins may not be one’s taste and that’s fine as well. Happy New Year and good luck with your many finds.
Pam, I can see why you would want to go through your folks collection. They must have kept them for a reason, so a closer look is a smart thing do. Or . . . maybe dad kept that nickel because you could still buy a cup of coffee with it. LOL
Yep! Thank you! I’m no where near y’all with collecting etc, but I guess the simple things I post, I do for a reason. Yes who knows, dad may have had a word for every coin he touched! Thanks again!
Another thing to understand is that doubling happens in a pattern. You won't have one letter showing doubling and the letters on either side not showing it.
