On a side note, I am pulling a lot of VERY attractive coins out of circulation, and am thinking of buying a few books to fill with them.

Do y'all think it would be worth my time to fill a few extras of each book, and see if my local coin shop will buy full books at a premium? Or does that not tend to sell?

    Walkers: 31

2011 ended with a dud for me. On Saturday, box of dimes: Skunk. Box of halves: Skunk.

I did find 1 40%er at another bank which had 4 halves so I did find a little silver.

    Happy New Year everyone.

    2011 Totals

    179 - 40% Kennedy
    24 - 90% Halves (19 Ken, 3 Frankies, 2 WL)
    2 - Washington Quarters
    156 - Roosie's
    11 - Mercury Dimes
    5 - War Nickels

Searched around $45,000 total dollars worth.
    $25k in dimes
    $15K in halves (I had one major score with 100 x 40%er's)
My average halves per box is just over 2.
The other 5K is assorted dimes, nicks, loose halves.

I'm hoping to search more halves this year and a goal of mine would be to collect $200 face in silver (40% and 90% combined)

Hello fellow coin roll searchers. I am new to the forum, but have been searching rolls for a couple of years now (mostly nickels and pennies). I have a question for all you silver hunters out there. What do you do with your finds? Do you keep everything (ie hoard), or do you sell it off?

Today, I picked up 10 rolls of halves and $9.50 in loose halves. In the loose halves, I got 9 1968 Kennedy's. I haven't opened up the 10 rolls yet, but can see that there are 3 more 1968's.

My initial thought, was to put what I need in my book (completing the Kennedy set), keep a few extras for myself and sell the rest. Not sure if this is the best idea, and this is why I would be interested in hearing what you guys do.

    Thanks

It's been a couple of years and about 12 boxes of halves since I have found any silver. Over the Holidays I thought that I would get a box of halves just for kicks and giggles. I found a nice proof on the end of a roll. When I opened it up it was a 1970 S. I've never got one of them from searching so it was a great surprise. They only hits on it of course were from the rolling machine.

I didn't have a chance to chime in on this. If there is any weight to the theory that people cash in old coins this time of year to pay for gifts, etc. you are doing yourself a disservice by not hunting at least through the end of the month. If time is a factor, just cut down your volume for awhile and don't put any pressure on yourself to do more.

In addition to halves, I am going to keep stats on my dime searching.
