I am speaking only for myself, but coin collecting in general seems to be more widespread in the USA than in other countries. If you are a foreign collector (and I am one in a small way) please don't be offended. If you look at a list of the most expensive coins in the world http://www.bornrich.com/entry/worlds-most-expensive-coins/
you will find only two coins that are not US, and one of those is a freak 100 kilo gold piece (is it even really a coin?). Let's not argue any other bias than the market place. I find collectors on this forum that are interested in coins from everywhere. As to the subject matter of the piece, that is usually secondary unless you have an interest in the subject. There are people who collect third reich coins, not because they are Nazis, but because there is an interest and a market there. I once posted on another forum in response to Texas wanting to have a license plate with a Confederate Battle Flag on it that they should make one with a swastika to honor the brave men who fell fighting for the fatherland. Not all of them were evil. Anyhow, as far as collectables go, you either follow the market or your own taste. BTW are you related to Bat Guano? And if it is not too personal, where are you from (bet you can't guess where I am from)?

Point well taken. The 1950-D Jefferson Nickel is a case in point. It was known as early as 1951 that it would be the key in the series and it almost immediately had a sale price of ~$10 and looking on e-bay, I can buy nice specimens for $15.

ParadiseMint just sent me a shipping notification for my order. Looks like they kept their end of the deal.

Wait, all of a sudden the US is part of the world? Not at this site for example. :p Seriously, I don't think that the question of how "popular" coin collecting is can be answered solely by looking at the exorbitant prices some people are willing to pay for some coins. Besides, what exactly would a "foreign collector" be?

Will try and stay away from US politics in this forum, but I found it peculiar that all 2010 and 2011 US commemoratives had military themes. OK, there was the Boy Scouts commem too, but even that had a pretty militaristic design ...

I don't think it's peculiar at all. Military coins (and other items) sell well. And 3 scouts saluting on a coin is militaristic? That's stretching it a little. Not all saluting is militaristic in nature. For the scouts, it's a sign of respect for the US Flag ect.

"This email confirms that your order was Shipped
Contact us if you have any questions about your order." unbelievable (in a good way)

No more peculiar than when other countries have military themes on their coins and there are countless examples. Most nations tend to glorify and honor their military. That's why there are also military toys, books, games, movies, clothes, etc. It's not for everyone, of course, but hardly peculiar.

You'll love 2012 with the Star-Spangeled Banner and American Infantry coins. The military is and will be a part of our lives as long as we have one. Not to say that I like it, but it is reality. BTW by foreign collector, I meant someone who collects foreign (to the United States) coins. I happen to like them, and they can be cheaper than American issues.

Those that bought several pieces, are you going to put them up on eBay right away? If so, I would like to monitor your sales to get a fix on current pricing. I always put my suggested selling price along with wholesale in my spreadsheet program to help my inheriters. I only purchased one, simply to add to my collection.

  15. I only bought one as well and then posted the links to this thread for people to scoop up the rest. I will just keep it in my collection but like you am interested in what people can get. TC
