Here are my finds for the day, after going through $200 in singles: 1 series 1988A: L 65657153 Y 2 series 2006: L 31577513 K (radar), & B 22012110 L (just liked the sn) 1 series 2009: B 01629373 B, Forth Worth note (short run of 6.4m). I already had one of these, but this one is in much nicer shape, so I replaced the old one, w/this one. I also pulled a 1999 BF-F block $20, out of a bunch of $20's I got from the bank today. Apparently, from a print run of 12.8m, which is semi-low, I guess. Not in the best shape, though, so it's probably going to be spent.
found another barr note just this morning! along with a series '69, a '69C and a '69D in one $100 bundle.
Been a while since i found anything at work, but I finally found some goodies this week. Heres what I snagged up
Here are my year-end 2011 stats for searching one dollar bills. Hopefully this post will receive some interest as it does take quite a bit of work to prepare these stats to post on here. 31,969 singles searched in 2011: 1963B-1 (G-I) 1969A-1 (K-B) 1969D-1 (L-A) 1977-3 (L-A, L-C, L-E) 1977A-6 (D-D, F-J, K-Fx2, L-F, L-G) 1981-9 (A-C, B-A, C-A, D-C, L-D, L-F, L-Gx3) 1981A-5 (A-B, B-E, H-A, K-B, L-E) 1985-13 (E-B, F-J, H-B (from uncut sheet), J-A, J-C, J-D, K-C, K-G, L-B, L-C, L-E, L-L, L-S) 1988-6 (B-B, D-B, E-D, G-A, G-D, L-B) 1988A-39 (A-B, A-G, B-N, B-U, B-W, C-A ((Web)), C-D, D-D, E-E, E-P, F-B, F-D, F-W, G-A, G-H, G-L, G-Nx2, G-Q, H-C, H-G, I-Bx2, I-D, I-I, J-C, K-B, K-I, L-B, L-C, L-D, L-E, L-Gx2, L-N, L-R, L-V, L-W, L-X) 1993-27 (A-A, B-B, B-Dx2, B-F, C-A, D-A, E-Ax2, E-B, F-B, F-D, G-D, K-A, L-C, L-Fx3, L-G, L-Hx3, L-Ix3, L-J, L-K) 1995-184 (A-A, A-Fx2, A-I, A-L, A-M, A-Nx2, B-A, B-C, B-K, B-L, B-M, B-N, B-P, B-Qx2, B-Ux3, B-V, B-X, B-Y, C-E, C-D, C-F, D-Ex2, D-Hx2, D-I, D-J, D-L, D-P, D-Q, E-G, E-J, E-Q, E-T, F-*, F-Cx3, F-Dx2, F-Jx2, F-Kx3, F-L, F-Vx2, G-*, G-A, G-D, G-E, G-F, G-Ix2, G-K G-Lx2, H-D, H-Fx2, H-G, H-Jx2, I-B, I-C, I-Dx2, I-Ex4, I-Fx4 (1 FW 295 error), I-Hx4, I-Jx5, I-Lx2, I-Mx4 (2 Mint CU and consecutive), I-N, J-B, J-Ex2, J-F, J-Hx3, J-I, J-Jx2 J-Lx5, J-M, J-N, J-Px2, J-Qx4, J-Rx3, J-Sx4, J-T, K-D, K-E, K-F, K-Gx4, K-Ix3, K-Jx4, K-Kx3, K-Lx2, K-N, L-Dx2, L-E, L-Gx2, L-H, L-J, L-Kx2, L-L, L-M, L-Nx2, L-Px2, L-Qx2, L-Tx4, L-U, L-Vx4, L-Wx3, L-Yx7 (2 Mint CU and consecutive) 1999-274 (A-Bx2, A-D, A-Ex8, A-Fx3, B-Ax2, B-Bx3, B-C, B-Dx3, B-Ex4, B-Fx4, B-Gx2, B-H, B-Jx5, B-K, B-Lx5, B-Mx2, B-N, B-Px2, B-Qx4, C-Ax3, C-Bx2, C-C, C-Dx3, C-Ex2, C-Hx2, C-J, D-A, D-B, D-C, E-Ax3, E-Bx4, E-Cx3, E-Dx4, E-Ex2, E-Fx4, E-Gx2, E-Hx2, F-Ax3, F-Bx4, F-Cx3, F-Dx2, F-Ix3, F-Jx3, F-K, F-L, F-M, F-P, F-Q, F-S, F-Tx4, G-Ax3, G-B, G-C, G-D, G-E, G-F, G-G, G-Hx3, G-Ix2, H-A, I-A, J-Ax2, J-C, J-Dx2, K-A, K-Bx2, K-Cx2, K-Dx2, K-Ex2, K-Fx8, K-Gx7, K-Hx5, K-I, K-Jx2, L-*x2, L-Ax4, L-B, L-Cx7, L-Dx3, L-Ex9, L-F, L-Gx6, L-Hx2, L-Ix4, L-Jx4, L-Kx2, L-Lx4, L-Mx2, L-Nx7, L-Px2, L-Qx9, L-Rx9, L-Sx7, L-Tx6, L-Ux3, L-Vx4) 91 Stars 1995 F-*, G-* 1999 L-*x2 2001 F-*x2, L-* 2003 A-*, B-*, E-*x2, G-*, K-*x3, L-* 2003A B-*x2, C-*x5, E-*x2, F-*x7, J-*x3 2006 B-*x8, D-*, F-*x7, G-*x9, J-*x10, K-*x9, L-*x11 2009 B-*x2 A couple of things that I found to be interesting were the high amount of 1981 notes that I found. Also interesting to me was that I found 7 1995 L-Y notes but zero notes from the L-X block. It's funny how you can find alot from one block but not another from the same series. Overall I had some good finds from this past year.
You'd be proud to know that your stat keeping has inspired me to begin that as well, although so far this year I've only gone thru $200 in singles with no returns. Out of those, what did you actually keep? -tbud
Went through around $800 in singles this past weekend. I found my first Fort Worth 295 note! Also kept a low serial, a birthday note, a few hole fillers and a couple of nice star notes including one from 2001. 1963A C61258263C 1985 B7560367F 1995 I21541436F (295 note) 1999 F91793869E 1999 G57576949D 2001 A05852548* 2006 A00009725D 2006 E93590814H 2009 A03933639* 2009 A06019049* 2009 G33254524A 2009 L19741012A (B-day note)
I'm glad that I've inspired someone, haha. There is a shorter way to write out the stats such as by writing them: 1995 L-C,D,E,E,E,E,G,G,I,I or L-D(x2),E,F,G or L-A,B,Cx3,D,E etc. I may try writing them out in one of these ways for this year and see how it goes. I automatically keep all of the pre-1995s, I either keep them for my collection or any duplicates are offered for trade. I'll do the same for the common 1995/1999s if they are in really nice condition, otherwise they get restrapped and deposited. Yes indeed, sometimes I will find several stars in a few straps or sometimes I wont find any for the longest while. Thankfully stars are no biggy for me so if I don't find any it's ok.
Went through $400 in singles today, and managed to get a pretty good haul. Here's what I snagged up. 1 Series 1963B (Barr Note): B 78786036 H 1 Series 1981A: B 65105475 D 1 Series 1985: B 65512889 S (This note is in very, very sad shape. Ripped in half, and taped back together). 1 Series 1988A: E 46476864 P 3 Series 2009's: Two Boston stars (A 03780374 *, & A 05834188 *) and another short run Fort Worth B-B block note, with goofy wheresgeorge markings on it. :headbang: (Don't get me wrong, I like wheresgeorge. I think it's a neat idea, but when they mark notes with potential collector value, it really irks me, and I've found plenty of notes that are more collectible than this '09 FW B-B, that have had those markings). I also went through a bundle of $10's, and found a low serial series 2006 note: IL 00000026 B. So, all in all, a pretty good day.
Found this in a pile of 10's I picked up from the bank today. Nothing special, but a fun serial# anyway! Thanks for looking. -L
Here is today's finds from my teller friend. The 1950-C was brought in by a woman who asked if it was real, he explained that it was and told her he could give her a new one if she wanted. It is now with the rest of my "saved" notes. Some people just don't know what they have or they don't appeciate it. Good for us though!!
Hi- i was wondering if there is any sense in me holding onto the commonplace star notes that I've found? ($1,$20,$50) And besides serial numbers, can someone please tell me what else to look for when examining notes? Thanks! Rosethe
Hi Rosethe, In order to be able to tell you more about your star notes, you're going to have to list the series year, and serial numbers. As for what to look for on notes, there are so many different things that may make a note desirable. Plus, not everybody is going to agree on what is a keeper vs. a spender. For example, star notes: Some folks save all stars they find, some only save very low runs, and some don't really care all that much about stars, and spend them. I would start by going over to http://www.uspapermoney.info and doing some reading over there. That site is packed with all kinds of great information, and you will certainly learn about what's out there, and what to keep an eye out for.
+1 I have no problem with wheresgeorge until I found a 2006 B* with a stamp on it. It was the first star note I returned to the wild in a long time.
Pretty slow day, today. My only $1 finds consist of another battered and tattered Series 1985, E-K block. I also found a Series 2006 C-G block, which is a low run of 6.4m, and will probably be a hard note to locate, in the future. I already have one of these, but will still set this one aside, in case anybody wants it. I would rather it go to another collector, than spend it. Other than those two $1 finds, I also happened upon a Series 1995 $10, J-A block. I'm always happy to find small heads, so this one was a nice surprise.
Moon, What is a 295 note? I see the 295 printed on the back. What is special about that kind of note. Thanks HOTN
Here's a good explanation: http://snorkack.nfshost.com/fw295/ Notes printed in Fort Worth can be identified by two distinctive features: A small "FW" facility mark appears just before the face plate number, and the back plate number is printed in large type. (The plate numbers, which identify the specific printing plates which produced a given note, are found in the lower right area of each side of the note on most denominations.) During the production of Series 1995 $1 notes, however, one printing plate was engraved incorrectly. Back plate #295, intended for use at the Fort Worth facility, was accidentally engraved with the smaller-size plate number usually used for Washington, DC's plates. The error was not noticed at the BEP, and plate #295 was used in production in Fort Worth for several months. As a result, all Series 1995 $1 notes printed with this back plate will have the "FW" facility mark on the face, but a small-size plate number "295" on the back--a combination which should not occur. These notes are now known as Fort Worth 295 errors.
