I think it'd grade original. Maybe VF35... Don't think it's quite XF. Cheek looks pretty good, and the wing feathers are fairly bold, but the bust's cap and upper-hair details have a bit too much wear to justify an XF grade. I'd love to attribute it, but alas, my Overton book has been misplaced .

Hopefully I find it soon... That book was expensive!

I think the OBV looks VF & the REV looks XF because "E Pluribus" is strong & not showing wear as a lot of Bust Halves I have viewed.
120 sounds like a good price to me.

  5. After a little while studying, I believe it is a O.112 or O.112a. I'm not completely sure. Also looks like its in a NGC holder :D

Looks like it could be O.104a which Overton classifies as R-3 201-500 known. As far as price I couldn't tell ya.

I keep seeing references to O.112 or something like that when talking about capped bust halves. I have no clue what that means. Can you point me in the direction of some information so that I can understand it? Thanks!

I haven't evaluated it too closely, but at first glance it looks genuine, around VF35, nice strike (clear EPU), old cleaning...I like it.

I think it looks good for the price as well. Recently, I have just been seeking some added views and opinions from others so I can see if I am picking anything up as far as knowledge.

Hopefully, will hear from some others as well as I think this might be one for my type set.
As for variety, if it would be an R3, does that one carry any type of premium if attributed on the holder?

    Thanks

O.104a, VF25. Looks problem free. Not crazy about the mottled look. But you could do a lot worse. $120 seems fair.

Nice half for the price rev. I agree that obverse is VF+ reverse = XF. I respect Brians knowledge, but he does tend to grade low. The only reason I would go VF obverse is the lack of relief in "Liberty," and the small gouge to the left of the eyeball.

Wow.. VF25? The reverse screams XF-40. Quick where is the hammer?

That's because grading high costs more $$$. :p

And the funny part is, I overgraded this coin (VF35)... If you checked the link I included in my 2nd to last post, the coin is an NGC VF25.

CBH's are tough to grade, JCB. I collect this series in VF, and I still have trouble telling some VF20's from XF40's! :foot-mouth:

I absolutely love CHB VF-XF. The old grey look, just looks so natural and each bust has its own characteristics.

A better reverse rarely adds a grade, though it can reduce one. I'd give this one a 35.

I figured the obverse was low-mid VF. When Liberty's hair blends smoothly with her cap I usually figure 25, tops.

I'm neutral as far as eye appeal is concerned. I like the crust but I think it has toned over after an old dip in a less than ideal way.
    Lance.
