I'm dropping out of the roll hunting game for a while due to time concerns. Doesn't help that silver keeps dropping, either. It's got me contemplating a full-out cash out of the hobby.

Merc, P.M. me, and I will make you a good offer. Searched through 247 dollars worth of halves, 1 - 67, 1- 68, and a 1964 !!!! found some banks in a nearby town that will order for me. They had these on hand.

Are you hard up for cash? If not I would hold on, you missed the chance for a good profit grab, might as well ride the coaster for one more trip around. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw $18 but it'll turn back up. I'm tracking my finds in oz not in the cash value for now. I'm collecting for SHTF or my 2 year olds college fund which ever comes first, and b/c it's fun. Maybe your reasons are different, or maybe I would feel less positive about it if I had been doing it as long as you have.

Anyways, long story short, You'll be missed if you do go!!

When it stops being fun...take a break or get out Merc. That's my motto. Our area is horrible right now. I ran around today down to New Castle, DE to drop the kids off and stopped by about 18 banks. Wound up with about $7.50 in loose halves. All clad.

    Got 2 boxes today: 1 x 1968 Kennedy; 1 x 1987S Clad

This was for about 4 hours worth of effort all said and done. Not worth it for today, but I do have about 86 oz of AG in a little under 7 months from CRH. So, that keeps me going.

I did a box of nickels and a box of pennies today, while waiting for my next $2000 in halves to come in next wednesday (I think)

1x dateless buffalo - but it is VERY attractively worn <3
    2x war - 1943p and 1945p I think.
    12x wheat - 1910 earliest, nothing special
    3x canadian pennies
1x brazil 2 centavos (or whatever it was called)
    ~500 copper cents

all in all, quite happy :)

I am going to start hitting pennies a little hard, because locally there is a coin shop advertising 1.25x face value on copper cents (or 1.1x face on unopened boxes from the bank... lol!). I figure if a coin shop is offering that much, I can put a CL ad offering copper at 1.5x face and probably find a local buyer. I will sort out all wheat for myself, as well as any really nice coins, of course, and start selling to some hoarder, collecting the "profit" until I have enough for a sorting machine. Then I can run loose pennies through there, and only search the copper - that would raise todays numbers from 12x wheat out of 2500 searched, to 12x wheat out of 500 searched, cutting out 80% of my time spend collecting wheat :)

This plan might even work... lol! Evantually ;)

Lol! yeah, yeah, I hear ya. But after 1 silver dime per box every time, it's nice to get 12 wheat in a box... feels like an accomplishment :p

And if I sort out the copper at the same time I am chasing wheat - which takes no extra time at all - I can turn it in for MORE than face, rather than just face like the rest of it gets at the bank :p

I dunno. Basically it's just something to do in the lulls between half dollar bags... lol! I am still hoping to set up a standing order of $2000 in halves per week - that will make my silver hoarde grow fast enough :) and will only take about 2 days of search time per week, including louping certain dates for possible varieties :D that leaves me with nothing to do 5 days per week... lol. Quarters are a COMPLETE waste of time - 1 silver in $2000 isn't worth it. And dimes are a SLOW process... :p 1 per box... nah. It's mostly nickels and pennies for me from now on, the rest of the week <3

Saw first hand yesterday why some of the banks in may area are stopping to order and contemplating adding fees to the now free coin machines. I knew there are two relatively new/younger guys that have been going to lots of banks trying to get them to order 6-8 boxes of halves and throwing a fuss with managers when the banks would not. They have been buying up every box they can find. Unfortunately, some of the banks don't want to limit (to say 1 box per customer or whatever) but they get upset when people get more than one. Kinda weird. Anyway, one of the banks had 6 boxes so I got one and a guy walks in to use the machine. He was dumping halves. HE HAD A TEN GALLON BUCKET ON A DOLLY AND A LARGE IGLOO ON WHEELS full of halves. While he was using the machine as it was going to take a while, he said he wanted the 5 boxes they had. The manager was mad and said a few things to me (known her since she has been there) about shutting down box coin purchases to non-businesses. She said they have two guys dumping 3-5K twice a week and the fees are excessive. She also knows they go to other branches as she has heard from other managers. Greed is on the verge of killing a good thing in our area. UGH!!

I am sooooooooo mad.. Went to a bank that I am a member of to pick up some pennies. The teller had two silver coins in his tray and WOULD NOT sell them to me. I was so angry. He said he was saving them for someone else but after his long winded story of how he likes to collect Indian head pennies I know who he was saving them for. I think if it is in the tray then they should have to sell it. It is not fair to flaunt it.

Sorry to hear that. These banks should just limit orders for non-business accounts to something reasonable. I occasionally read the treasurenet CRH forum and it's amazing the number of boxes some of them do.

That just sucks so much. I haven't been able to get a box at that bank for a while since these guys buy them so quickly. Arggg!

Well had to drive a ways but was going to the coin shop so not too far out of the way to get a box. Turned out to be worth it as it held 1 1991S Proof, 1 1949D, and 11 40%'ers. Way better than any other box last few weeks.

Also picked up 1903O Barber Quarter, 1926 SL Quarter, and 3 Barber Dimes for melt so was a decent trip.

Tried a road trip today myself...wound up getting about $500 in what appeared to be BWH's, but turned out to be one of those dumpers who recrimps the rolls. So, all were a skunk. Grabbed about another $35 in loose Halves - Skunk. Hit a bank with $250 in BWH's and found 3 x 40%ers. Then got a call that my girlfriends car wouldn't stop. I was about 45 minutes from home and was feeling like I got out of the dump zone and had to turn around and get that squared away.

I got home and picked up 1 box - Skunk. Cashed all in, grabbed 2 more boxes - Skunk.

So - I did over $2280 and got 3 x 40%'s to show for it. At least it wasn't a shutout, but I'm ready for December to be over.
