I know I'm just throwing money away, but I really love these auctions! I have a Crown Royal bag full of Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, and Indian Head pennies. Every once in a while, I'm asked to fill in at Sunday School. I have a bible trivia contest at the end and each correct answer gets to pick from the coin bag. I seem to be one of the more popular substitute teachers! Weeks when I'm just there during normal services, kids come up and beg me to ask them a question...so, of course, I have to have my bag with me. Auctions like this help me keep my bag full. :thumb:

Taking a Crown Royal Bag into Sunday school, good example.

lol...well, the bottle's not in it if that's what you're suggesting! (why do you think I'm only a substitute?) :D

That Crown Royal bag sure seems to be popular.

Would you like to add in some vintage foreign coins to make the mix a bit more interesting? =)

Sure! ...but I'm only looking to spend about 50¢ per coin.

You'll spend 50¢ less than that. For the kids. =)

I don't think you're throwing money away if you enjoy this. Think of all the young coin collectors you may be creating.

The funny thing is...the parents are just as interested as the kids!

Noooo... that creates more demands and higher prices.

I demand you stop this practice now yakpoo! Do not indoctrinate these young kids into coin collectors! :p

  13. Sounds like a good church raffle. Pay $1 to guess the number of buffalo nickels in the Crown Royal bag, with the closest winning the lot. Of course, the proceeds go to the church. :D. TC

I like to do the same Yakpoo. I love odd lots. I have a huge pile of fake coins, tokens, etc from them as well, but they are fun. I give away US coins to friends who have never seen them, I give away fakes to their kids to play with, and I give away some ancients I get to a school program.

Its a fun way to refill giveaway coffers, and you would be surprised at the little gems that you can pick up for yourself. :)

Interesting idea, the kids are really learning about history when they get those older coins. Though they may not know it, intriguing young minds may look into how, when and why the coins were minted.

I usually ask the older kids who they think might have carried their coin. I get answers like Babe Ruth or Al Capone. A lot of times they can't think of anyone, but have an answer the next time I see them...that's always fun!

There is a program with ancient coins like that. Its called Ancient Coins for Education, (ACE). They have collectors go into schools and teach kids about ancient coins and give them an ancient coin. I have donated to them, but have been meaning to volunteer to go into a school and try it myself. Imagine them coming up with Augustus, Constantine the Great, etc.

    Very cool Yakpoo!
