An ASE Christmas

So, even though I'm somewhat of an adult and living on my own...my parents still ask me around Christmas time if there is anything coin related that I want for Christmas. Normally, it's something small but this year there was a very special item I was dying for. So, a few months ago I explained to my parents that the 25th Anniversary set for the ASE was being released. My parents have always spent way too much money on their children at Christmas...and this year were planning on a reduced budget. I told them the set was $300 and if that was too much money to not worry about it (since they never say what the budget is...just that they want to spend less). They said they would think about it.

I was extremely clear that this set was very limited and would sell out within a matter of hours following its release. As wonderful as my family is, they have never been good at sticking to schedules...and things tend to get put off. So, I feared that if they decided to buy me the set that they might wait too long and not be able to get one. To make matters worse, the release date was 10/27/2011 which is my younger brother's birthday. So, I figured getting this set for Christmas was a very long shot. But, since I couldn't afford it...the best I could do was hope that they would be willing and able to get me one.

Well, on Christmas...I opened a heavy rectangular package and found this:

Do take this comment in the positive way in which it is intended: the present clearly demonstrates your membership in the Lucky Sperm Club! What a great present! That should keep you happy for quite some time.

That is one nice Christmas present. Not too many got a set, even for themselves.

They were saying they were really unsure if they were going to actually get one. But, it eventually came. I have the receipt...I wonder if I can use the order number to see where I was and how close I was to not getting one.

Holy cow man! Thanks mom and dad, huh? I've gotten some great gifts from my parents, including some great coins. But that's pretty special, not just because of the money, but because it seemed to be a hard to get item too. Congrats. Either one of your parents a collector?

Your parents certainly put a priority on getting that one. Who cares how high the price goes for these sets. Yours is priceless.
And the order numbers were fulfilled up beyond 38391500. They shipped some as late as December 23rd.

It's very special. My dad collected years ago...but not anymore. He loves the WL design though and really liked these coins. He still has an interest in coins.

I believe they had my brother make the order...he did it on his lunch break from school. If I recall, the set went on sale at noon so it was the perfect time for him to place the order. So, I think I owe them all for it. And yes, it's priceless to me. It won't ever be for sale.
