Hmmm... I am trying to set up a standing order of $2000 in halves per week from my pick-up bank. The branch manager says she needs to ask if that will be allowed, since they are (apparently) charged by the weight of what they order from the fed, so it will cost them a bit every time they order me halves. They say I am the only one who ever asks for them... lol.

If they tell me they can not/will not keep ordering me halves, do y'all think it would do me any good to offer an agreement to keep some minimum daily balance, say, $400-$500 or so, in my account, if they will continue ordering for me? Does that sound like something that would entice a bank to keep helping me out? Lol... I was thinking of either a personal agreement or a small contract, where I agree to keep that amount in the account, and they will continue to order for me, and if my balance drops below that amount, I am not penalized, but they will not order me any for that week?

    Any thoughts?

Otherwise, I will be simply finding another new bank, and making certain that, as the main condition of my opening the account, they will order those coins for me on a regular basis. But I REALLY don't want a 3rd account... :p

Here's a question - Has anyone here ever tried to order/search large dollar coins, and/or found anything other than good ol' ike from a bank? Is it POSSIBLE to see morgans, peace, or anything else?

LOL - Have you ever done this?

Yesterday, I picked up a box of halves. Skunk. I then stopped at another bank and found $25 of halves and found 1 40%er. So I go to my dump bank and am putting coins in the machine. It has a limit of $200 per account per day, so I need to be careful. I'm getting close so I'm slowly adding coins. My hand is in my pocket where my one silver find for the day is located. You know what is coming don't you. I need one more coin and since my mind was daydreaming, I accidently pulled out the 40% silver from my pocket and dropped it in. I immediately noticed the sound of silver....NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! :headbang:

I'm glad it was only a 40%er. The first time I've ever done that. So, Erin, if you find a box in a couple of weeks with one 1969, IT's MINE!!! lol

    Oooops :blushin6:

Darn, bobbeth, that sucks, you're right, at least it was a 40%. Speaking of which, I'm wondering how the recent drop in silver affects your guys searching efforts. With a 40% now worth 4.00, is anybody dropping out? At what point would you stop searching for silver, or would there be a point? For me, I guess I view the drop as temporary, so it wouldn't matter if silver went to $20/ounce, because I think it would rebound, and I just wouldn't sell any silver I found until it did.

I plan on holding my silver for 20 or 30 years (unless a bubble pop or some obvious emergency exit sign lights up) so current prices don't mean anything to me. I'm still kinda new to this so I'm more worried about losing motivation if I deal with to many skunks.

    1 box halves - skunk
    $500 CWR halves - 1 40%

Went to grab a box of pennies from my local bank I have been a member of for 15+ years... Wanted to charge me 7.50 PER BOX... Needless to say dont think I will be stopping there anymore.. However ran by another bank and they gave me one, said I normally would need to be a member, but if I consider opening an account they would exchange it for me this time!

Are crazy charges for boxes like this normal? Is there any reason for them other than to deter people like us?

Will post results on the box of pennies later!

I was searching through a box of Nickels today and found two War Nickels, '43-P and '45-S, along with eight Canadians. Later, as I was going to dump my coins, an elderly woman was in front of me, and I noticed she put a half dollar on the coin machine's counter, as it was rejected. I offered her one dollar for the half and any Canadians that were rejected, and she gave them to me: a '68-D half and 15 Canadian cents (a combination of a nickel and a dime).

Got a box yesterday...no silver. Picked up a couple of Barber dimes from the shop and some Ikes from the bank but not much else.

Did pick up some Seated liberty halves and a 1895O Barber dime for Incarnate this week.

    Today was horrid.
Two teeth pulled at the dentist. They kept breaking so he had to keep digging. Ouch!
Then through the pain I decided to continue the search and pick up some halves to take home while I tend my wounds.
    $700 in halves. SKUNK!
Time to take some meds and pass out.

Searching a box of nickels and I just found a 45P! Along with some other 40s. I think I like searching nickels in between my half boxes.

Got a box of dimes too but they're all 2011. I'm so done with 2011. I can't wait for the 2012s!

Well my halve bank didn't disappoint. First box of halves produced a '69 but the second box produced eight 40%'ers (three '67, two '68, and three '69). Good day. Going on a road trip to Wyoming on Friday to do a little fly fishing and plan to pick up some boxes when I get there. Will be interesting to see what I find.

decided to road trip to a town about 30 miles out. that town was dry!! I went a probable 2 dozen banks and hardly anyone had any halves. ended up with:

    $220 CWR 2 64's and 5 40%'ers
38 in loose teller halves - skunk
    one box dimes - skunk
    $20 in bwr dimes - 1 '68 canadian

I drove home thinking I had wasted my gas but was excited to find all those halves. not much to sort but what I did find ended up being pretty good!!

    Box 2: 1 40% and 1 proof
    Box 3: skunk

I got $40 worth of BWR halves today.
No silver but I did find a 1987 proof.
It's my first proof coin find!
As for the silver, I just gotta keep on keepin' on!
If I'm this jazzed about finding a 1987 proof, you can imagine what I'll be like when I find my first silver half dollar for face value.
