:welcome:I find LittletonCoin.com a great site to buy coins. They got everything. I recently got the national park 2010-2011 coins and a book to put them in. They also colorize coins and they look wonderful. I don't think of buying from Littleton. I prefer to deal with either local dealers, some ebaying, or on-line contacts, or through coin shows. Just my preference.

 

They were my first source to buy coins from but as I got older I realized that they're over priced and since then I stayed away from them. They have good coins but if you look around you can find the same coins for less.

 

I find them overpriced... But that's just me

 

I went over to their website, and saw the colorized quarters set they offer. 6 quarters from 2009 for just under 25.00 (a 15% savings). As nice as they look for someone who likes the colorized, it makes each and every one of those quarters valueless and in the long run the people who purchase them are tossing their money away. Think of Franklin mint, collectors plates, etc. Poor to non-existant resale value.

That being said, I did purchase something like this from the Canadian Mint, with their Colorized Mishepishu coin. I bought that one just for me to enjoy, and realize that in all likelihood it will have virtually no resale value. I considered it akin to me enjoying a first run movie in value.

Another thumbs down here. If you like colorized, more power to ya and do buy what you like, but it will not benefit the coin, instead detracting from its value in all likelihood.

I browsed their silver proof set page and noticed that there are no 2010's up for sale. Interesting gap, eh? They only want $30 more than the mint's own current price for the 2011 set. Sure wish I could sell stuff like that for ~50% over cost. Only $150 for the 2009 set now. Yikes!

 

I like looking at the pictures of the colorized national parks quarters, but not to buy.

 

Bullion is way over priced. 1/10 oz gold eagles for $273 and ASE for $56. That's almost double what its worth.

 

I have bought from them once and this will be my only purchase from them! I received two sets of 2009 Lincoln Cents claiming to be in an MS condition. These coins were terribly dirty and all packaged together! The worst part was that I received "extra" coins! I thought that these were mine but later found out that if I did not return them within a certain number of days, than I would have to buy them. I think that this is ridiculous. I love their folders but I'm not a fan of their other products.

 

I'm pretty sure that the law doesn't work that way. On the other hand, you'd need to take a VERY careful look at any agreements you clicked on or signed when you made the original purchase.

 

When you order from them one of the checked boxes is an agreement to sign up from a service they offer in which they send you a coin and you have a certain amount of time to examine and then either send the coin back or pay for it. They make it seem like they're doing you a favor letting you examine the coins in your home in your own time but it's just a hassle. I accidently left this boxed checked on one of my orders and when they sent me the coin I also thought it was mine until later. The service is just an annoying way for them to make money. They figure once you have the coin its easier for you to just pay for it rather than go through the trouble of mailing it back.

 

It's a program that makes good money for companies. If they can regularly ship books, records, stamps, coins, whatever on "approval" where you have a certain amount of time to return it if you don't want it, and if you don't return it you will be charged for it, then most of the time they have "sold" a product. Most people don't take time out to repackage and send back stuff that may actually cost the person a certain amount and then they don't have the product either. Most people will continue to pay for the item, and keep it, until the point comes where they are so fed up that they cancel that service. But if a person sometimes gets something he or she really likes, that person can put up with a lot and not return it. Also if it comes out of a bank account and the person hasn't sent it back, then the person considers it his/her fault, can say "well, next time, I'll return it", but again, probably won't.

The problem for the consumer is the consumer has to be proactive with each and every selection sent to him/her. It's too easy in our complicated lives to always remember to return promptly. So the company makes sales.

That is why companies would rather have programs that customers have to call to opt out, rather than to opt in for each item. People tend not to take the time and effort to do things, even if they are dissatisfied.

 

Nope, I ordered mercury dimes from them! NEVER, Got them.

 

What do I think of Littleton Coin?
I think they sell over-priced coins to naive collectors.
Furthermore, I think the initial post in this thread was posted by a shill for the company.
I would never, under any circumstances buy or sell to Littleton.

 

Definitely overpriced, I don't bother with them.
