Hello, bought this 1871 seated lib peace dollar 2 weekends ago from a very trusted dealer in my area. I don't doubt its authenticity as I trust this long-time dealer, but before I crack it out of the 2x2 and put in my 7070 would just love some expert opinions. These things scare me since they are so counterfeited! My pictures aren't great as always, but hope you can give me your opinions. For the experts - please give me your thoughts. Thanks!
Thanks Hull - He was asking $325 at the coin show and all I had in my wallet was $272 and he didn't want to drop that much at first, but remembered that I am a Navy guy and he is retired Navy. So, he said Merry Christmas and let me have it. I was so happy cause it is so hard to find a nice example for my 7070 album that isn't out of this world money. Based on PCGS Photograde, I estimate it to be VF25...maybe 30. But, I like the coin and can't wait to get it into my 7070.
No problem. I still think it is around Fine in my red book. VG says "any 3 letters of liberty at least two-thirds complete" Fine says all seven visible but weak. Other features can make up for lack of liberty but the liberty still limits it. I still like the coin. Very attractive for the grade and age, maybe you overpaid just a tad. I am glad you didn't go $325
