Hello, i need some help on identifying or at least getting some feedback from you coin experts. I was going through some change and this quarter jumped out at me! It was like nothing i've seen before so i did some searching and im "THINKING" it is a weak strike. The front and back of the coin are very faint and have little trim, and the side of the coin has no reeding (very smooth). It is a 2005 Kansas State Quarter, these are the only defects or errors that i see, more errors might be there i just don't know coins that well so if anyone can help me out on whats up with this coin and how much it may be worth i would be very grateful!
    Thanks

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

I don't think it can be attributed to a weak strike. For one thing, the reeding is formed by the retaining collar, so even with a weak strike, there would still be evidence of the reeding. On the reverse, it does appear to be slightly off-center to K7, but I would have to go with severe circulation wear or damage. Perhaps someone else can offer a theory as to the cause.

I catch nickels like this once in a while, and the occasional dime/quarter. I always toss them back, pretty positive it's PMD of some sort.

thanks guys!!! I was planning on selling this on ebay if it was a real mint error but i was doubting it a bit and the feedback from you guys confirms my suspicions about this coin. Also even if it just had post mint damage (PMD) the backside of the coin does look off center or lop sided. Do you peps think so?!
    Thanks

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Just heavy wear. Possibly a dryer coin.

dang it!!! I'm a delivery driver (PIZZA) so i collect at least $40.00 in change a week so i sort through my coins just to see if i have any steel pennies or silver quarters and i found this, too bad someone did this to a coin and got my hopes up!!! i was really hoping this was to be a valuable (worth more than 25 cent) coin! Guess i will add it with my weeks batch into coinstar!

And next week someone else will come here asking about the error quarter that they found.

Try selling it on eBay as a "wierd quarter" you might just get a bid ;)

well i don't want to falsify an item knowing that it isn't a mint error. If it was a mint error i would definitely sell it on ebay but i've gotten too much response as a worn/circulated coin that has been damaged! :( dang it!!!

Yeah, don't actually do it, but on these forums it's kind of an inside joke that anything goes on eBay. :D

Looks like the 2007 state quarter I found this week 50' down on a reef, except mine also has a greenish tint.

Sell it as "Oddly weird already worn down in a short amount of time Quarter" then.. I'm sure someone is dumb enough to buy it and you wouldn't be lying about it. ;)

  15. Hello, can anyone tell me if this is a damaged coin or error coin?

Hello and welcome to the forum. I am not your error guy but I can tell you that these old threads tend to get ignored. Start yourself a thread and ask and I’m sure the error guys will jump in and give you all the info you need.

  17. Thank you for your help.
    Greatly appreciated!
