I've been going through rolls of pennies lately to pick out the pre 83s and I've noticed that on almost all, if not all, of the 1968s the obverse of the coin looks different than all the other years. Lincolns head and the date look a lot more pronounced and bold, that's how I'd describe it anyways. Has anyone else noticed this? And was there something different about the pennies were minted during that year?

I believe 1968 is the year the master hub for the obverse of the Lincoln Cent was redone. After almost 60 years of use the master hub was getting a bit worn.

No the obv hub was redone in 1969. In 68 the bust was larger mushy and lacking in detail. The lettering tended to be spread out with the upright of the L in LIBERTY disappearing into the rim.

Thanks for the correction. For some reason I can't always remember whether 1968 was the last year of the old master hub or the first year of the reworked master hub.
