This coin also resides in my Dansco 7070 album. It is the last Half Dime I needed so now onto the rest of the album. It’s filling in slowly but surely. The coin has arrows at the date. It is known as Variety 3 and was minted from 1853-1855. The arrows were placed there to note the reduction in weight, a tenth of a gram lighter. This was done accordance with the Act of February 32, 1853. A whopping 13,210,020 were minted. I believe that’s the highest mintage of all types of Half Dimes. There is an 1853 of Variety 2 but the arrows are the key here. In my photo the gray or cloudy areas are actually a very pale light blue in hand. My cell just wouldn’t pick up that light blue color.
