Listing some items locally on Craigslist, here's what I'm asking: $25/each for BU Peace dollars $15/each for AU Walking Liberty halves I'm of the opinion that this is a pretty fair price...and yet I'm getting people trying to offer me MELT for this. Inside I'm laughing...but I want to ask, does anyone else here agree with me, or with the buyer? I understand trying to get something for the best price possible...but isn't there a point where you go, "yeah, that is a pretty good deal..." Thanks for the opinions... ~benjamin
Listing uncertified silver coins on craigslist will get you offers of melt value only. However, I don't see anything wrong with your prices. Melt + $3-$5 is not bad.
BU Peace dollars will likely fetch you over $30 each on eBay (seems people pay ridiculous prices for these on eBay). If the Walking Liberty's are in decent condition, those will fetch you more than Craigslist as well, if in Good to perhaps Fine condition, likely get around $15 or so as well on eBay.
Thanks for the opinions so far, everyone. See, I felt my prices were extremely fair - I check Numismedia/eBay/dealer prices and come up with something a bit lower. I'm just surprised that we've been at the point still where people will be extremely rude with their bargaining tactics - if it's not a huge, one-sided deal in their favor, they're not interested. I just wanted to get some opinions from other coin collectors. I do have an eBay account, but I hate going through the process...dealing with the one crazy person that will never be happy...Post Office "losing" two or three packages...and the skimming of 13% right off the top. I think I'll just list them on here and see if I have any takers at this price. Thanks for the opinions!
BU Peace Dollars for two bucks above melt. I think that's more than fair, I'd call it a good deal. AU Walkers at $15 less of a good deal IMO but still a fair price.
Craigslist Dealings As an individual who regularly sells large coin lots on Craigslist, you would need to understand the problems associated with trading in that environment. It is an extremely hostile, insecure, volatile venue where many of the societal parasites reside, cruising for the next victim. Buyers/sellers must be prepared to experience many unusual events when dealing on craigslist. Participants must arrive at a secure location, accompanied by security, expecting the other participant not to arrive, or to have unexpected items/accomplices/means. You must always expect something out of the normal, and items which may have ramifications in a secure environment. The risks, and possibly the rewards are greater on craigslist than eBay, but often, little is free. You pay or you play the possible game. There is definitely a reason why buyers are likely to be "rude" and prepared on craigslist. I could easily write a very interesting novel about some of my experiences, and the characters of craigslist. Just my humble experienced opinion. Rich :thumb:
I am with the majority that these are both good deals. Imrich gives good advice on how to stay safe when dealing on craigslist. TC
My only advice in selling on Craigslist is, always meet in a crowded public place. Never tell them where you live or show up at their place. If a party isn't willing to meet publicly, then that raises all sorts of red flags in my opinion. (Unless of course they have ample proof they're disabled or something, etc)
