Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

    Not to sound ungrateful,
Today we had our family Christmas, (over 35 people in one house) and for our gift exchange, my grandpa gave me a small package and said "I bet you don't have one of these in your collection" I was expecting a barber quarter or half or silver dollar but opened a proof Suzie, and immediately thought 'there is a reason I don't have one' but managed to keep my cool, pretended to be excited, and took photos to document it. I am definitely not a fan of the Suzies, actually hate it, but it will fit in my type book, so I will be happy with it, and am already starting to grow to like it. It is a 1979-S T1 proof. Here is a pic:

This is the third time I have heard of such a thing happening. Two of my friends' family go to a coin shop, ask for a unusual coin, and the dealer gives them a "Deal" on a Susan B Anthony dollar, the family member buys it, and then gives it, both of the friends didn't like it and wasn't about to say they got ripped off. Do dealers just love to unload these onto people who don't collect coins or buy coins as a gift?

Not really, they generally ask how much they want to spend it these usually fall into the gift price range. Remember it's the thought that counts

My new coin.. I was going to buy it because it was so pretty to me; the proprietor gave it to me! Sorry for the horrid scan, but so far the best I can do!

I think I like the reverse better than the obverse on the 1958-D Roosie. And the obverse is certainly no slouch. Great looking coin!!

    Hey JelloMan,

    On your toning question ...

Up through the year 1958, the Mint issued mint sets in these cardboard holders covered with tissue paper ... and the sulfur in both led to some wild coloration developing on coins that were stored that way. Stating in 1959, the Mint switched to the cellophane packs, which tended to inhibit toning. You can still find album and roll toned coins post 1959 though, just not as many.
