As always I love to hear the opinions of others regarding my purchases. I know it's better to ask before I buy, but I really took a liking to this one. I have only purchased one seated liberty, and that was the very first coin I ever bought. (5 years old). I know it isn't one of the favorites, but there was nostalgic value in this one, even though it wasn't a half. I did PM a couple of my CT buddies, and one mentioned that they weren't 100% sure about the toning, but it did look natural to me... Anyhow, the gentleman wanted 359 initially, and I have seen this same coin up a few months ago listed for $375. I offered him 300, and he countered at 320. I accepted the offer. What do you think about this one? Was 320 a fair price? Thanks again. ~Jason
You paid about the online guide values list it, $318. Its a pretty coin but not a bargain. As long as your happy with it!
AMAZING buy!! I think you did great! I love the over all look of the coin, it is phenominal! Also, good news, the toning is natural, at least PCGS thinks so! Your coin is one of their examples on "Coinfacts!" http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/CoinDetail.aspx?s=4665
Thanks Zach. My god so this is the same coin as on coinfacts? That is reasuring! Here is the link from the guys add. I just want to make sure these two are the same coin here.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160700801732?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
PCGS price guide lists the value at $340, and you got it for about fair market value so I think you did good. I've noticed these on eBay for not much less, and certainly not under $300.
Also, are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is that a die rotation? I know the obverse is tilted a little, but shouldn't the "One Dime" be facing the other way on the reverse?
I think it's just tilted in the collar inside the holder and when you flip it upside down to look at the reverse, it's tilted in the opposite direction from the obverse.
Really nice coin. Sometimes when something is hard to get you have to expect to pay close to guide. In either case as long as you like the coin its a good pickup.
I like the coin alot, it looks like it still has a fair amount of the original luster to it, as for price I would not have even asked about price if it was listed for 375. I do not like bargaining unless I feel that I would buy it for at least 20% under what a certain guide lists it for. The numismedia guide lists it for 318, so I would not feel comfortable paying much more than 250 for it. That ignores toning/tarnish which many collectors will pay a pretty penny for if it tickles their fancy.
It would look great alongside my 1873 arrows half. Let me know when you're ready to sell it. You won't take a loss. Lance.
It's a beautiful coin , as for price I say you get what you pay for , sometimes you pay over sometimes and usually less often you pay less . As long as you're happy with the price and coin then you did good . The toning looks fine to me , like it was in a high carbon coin holder . Nice pickup .
I think the coin is net graded up for the color, and rightfully so. Technically it looks more XF than AU, but I have no issue whatsoever with the assigned grade. $320 sounds about right to me. That's quite a nice coin, by the way. If you ever want to sell it, I'm game.
I think its a nice coin too. I don't think you will regret buying it. Its a very nice one year type coin, one that is constantly in demand. Even though you may not have bought it below market, coins like this usually carry strong prices due to this demand. I don't think you will ever get burned on it. Nice coin! Chris
