2 boxes of halves - skunk.

Makes 3k in skunks in a row now. Every box is riddled with coins marked the same way. black dot over the "E" in liberty. :( How am I suppose to figure out if it is something I can just push through, or if there is an active sorter in my area that is dumping really heavy at my bank? I've been able to figure out that there are 2 people dumping at my bank, each at a different location. but they are both pretty small amounts, couple hundred at a time. With the amount of black dots I am finding this guy is either marking every coin or has gone through tons and tons of coin.

Did a box of quarters last night, came across one if you need it. Same box of quarters gave up a '64. Not bad for buying something on a whim. 2 boxes of dimes gave up 2 and 1 roosies respectively.

    Now I'm curious.

2 boxes of halves, both skunks, surprise. Teller had $20 loose, 10 40%ers and 1 '64. Made the trip worthwhile.

    Box of quarters, skunk.

    Box of dimes, 2 roosies.

3x box of nickels, 3x war, 2x buff.

Where do you live if you don't mind me asking since the same thing is where I am.

    Ok, mystery solved... the $1000 "box" of halves they ordered me was a bag, in fact. Silver results: 2x 90% - 1964 kennedy and 1923 monroe/adams, and 9x 40% - 1x 1965, 3x 1966, 1x 1967, 1x 1968d, and 3x 1969d. Also 2x 1986 commemoratives, 1x gold plated 1973 stamped with '1960-1980', 1x gold plated 1984 stamped with '1960-1985', 1980 clad proof, and 2008 clad proof.

One more note - my $1000 bag of halves had a total of $984 in halves, 17 pennies, 4 nickels, 5 dimes, 5 squished souvenir pennies, 1 costa rica 50 colones, 2 buttons, a key, 5 car wash tokens, 2 guitar picks, 1 broken post earring, and 1 lock washer. Yeah... so, the question is, I am $16 short on halves. Should I complain? Ask the bank to refund it? What do YOU all do when a bag is short?

I would just keep pushing through them. I've gone 8 in a row and caught 1 40%er and then had another 5 or 6 skunks in a row. When you break the streak you'll see some good boxes in short order too.

Eh, I would fix my shirt, wash my car, and plan a trip to costa rica. Probably hard to prove the bag was short.

I bought $250 in CWR dimes from my credit union one time and one of the rolls was short like 15 coins! how does a teller not notice a roll that short? They even gave me the disclaimer that they can't promise all the rolls will be right. I assumed a roll could end up a coin short or so without being noticed not 15. Same place that screwed me around when I was trying to find the right place to order boxes. I would not be surprised is they shorted that roll on purpose to discourage me from going there.

This isn't from roll searching but I count it as found silver:

I was at the grocery store and I was the last person in line. There was only one cashier working. Pretty dead in there. Anyway, you know how when you buy your groceries with cash the coin machine shoots out your change? So as I was leaving, I could see all the change in the coin machines on the way out. I could see the silver coins! So I walked back to the cashier and said “You know what kills me? I can see silver in the machine and I can’t get it! Can I just feed you dollars and you can give me change?” I was joking of course. He says “I can open it and you can exchange for it”. So he gets his keys, goes over to the aisle, unlocks the dispenser and says “which one do you want?” I pointed to the one in the middle. He pulls out all the quarters above it and hands it to me. I give him a quarter for exchange.

He gave me a 1962 quarter! WOO HOO!

I'm thinking about going there when it's not busy and see if someone will do that for me again. Can't hurt to ask, right?

If you complain, they may opt to not sell you bags any more... BS like that is just part of the game with halves, consider yourself lucky you can get bags instead of boxes and call it a day.

Every bank or credit union I've asked to buy a bag say they can't sell them. Which ones are you all buying from?

I've never ordered a bag of coins before but I assumed that the bag would be filled from the same supply that boxes are filled from. I have however gotten bags from the banks coin counter and thats what this bag sounds like. How the **** is that bag being sold to a customer without getting counted by the supplier? Are the suppliers picking up coin counter bags from one bank and selling to another without even counting the coins in the bag?
