Yea it is, you don't see memorial cent red wood very often....it's pretty rare actually.

Really? Why is that? I would think that any cent pre-82 would be susceptible to it.

Susceptible, yes, but with 100+ years of experience they kept getting better at mixing the alloy. Therefore, the later ones are rarer.

Because most of the planchet alloy problems were solved long before the memorial cent was issued. Think about it...how many red, woody memorial cents have you ever seen? For me, this is only like the 3rd one. I've seen quite a few 80 and 81's in brown but not red.

Thanks, I didn't know. I hardly look for woodies, red, brown, or otherwise. So I'm not into keeping track of the ones I've seen or not seen. This one kind of struck me simply with the wide spaces between thin woodiness, and some having like doublets of it.

If you are doing it because you like their looks, by all means do so. If you are doing it to make money, you will probably be better off trying something else. Most will probably sell at a discount.

I am pretty sure these has been, but I cannot find it now. I do know for a fact that there are MPL's that are woodies, but I have never seen one 1936 or later.

The grain is very weak on the reverse, but it is there.
