wow, those are some nice coins. thats what we need to see instead of some of the current designs we have on our coins.

Nice looking design. Why couldn't they design some of the coins made for circulation like that?

I'll bet the silver will be over $50.

The dollar looks nice but the reverse of the $5 is marred by the ugly lettering of "oh say can you see".
Wonder if it will appear in black on the actual coin ;)
I just don't understand why the Mint refuses to hire skilled medallic artists and continues to design coins on paper that almost invariably look hideous in coin form.

If the recent past is any indication, the silver should be between $55.00 and $65.00, with at least $10.00 of that going toward some special fund. So, at roughly a 100% premium over current spot, I personally would only be buying this coin if I really, really liked it. For the same amount you should be able to get a 2012 proof Silver Eagle, which is an outstanding coin and which, I would think, would offer a better chance of getting your money back in the future. Just 1 person's opinion.

Thanks for posting. I like these designs. I'm in for both.

I saw the design recommendations a few months ago and I decided that if they went with this design I'd buy one of each.

Because if they do you wind up with coin designs that are uncoinable. Today's coins are struck so fast they HAVE to be in very low flat relief and when you do that you tend to get ugly coins. That is why they are not hiring medalists but are hiring graphic artists. People who are trained in 2-Dimentional art.

Looks like I'll be on board for the Silver one. I'm picky about the Commemorative dollars, I haven't been that impressed since the Lincoln in 2009, which was the last one I picked up.

In for at least one in silver, plus the infantry on the 16th!

  19. I am not into commems much, Ike is the only 1 I have. Almost got the Boy Scouts though. That said, If the actual silver coin looks as good as the drawing suggests, I will get at least 1.

Treehugger, I really like those ASEs also, but I don't always collect coins for the future value. Some times I collect them just because I LIKE them!
