Post a Toned Coin

Great pics Lance! But for goodness sake, can you make a web friendly version of them to post? Your file sizes are around 1.3 MB! It takes a long time for a page to load when you have multiple images. I can't use my phone to load these pages.

This image was 1.3MB. Now it is 230k. There isn't any noticeable loss of quality, and it's the same resolution. Please don't take my suggestion as rude. I really enjoy seeing your great shots and top notch coins.

I hear you, gbroke. These are exceptions to the routine size I post, 600x600 pixels, which load much faster. A dealer wanted them 1000x1000 and I didn't resize the above ones. Sorry about that.

Cool Lance. Do not deny me the chance to look at your coins while I'm driving! Also, it's not the resolution, it's the compression. You can keep em at 1000x1000.

 

The ones I posted are about 1200x800 and around 200kb. They are web versions.

I don't compress customers' images because I don't want the quality degradation (unless they ask for it). And it can always be done later, but never restored without the originals.

I do compress my own, about 30%.

At what point is the degradation noticeable on a very good monitor? Is there a general guideline?

I pulled this out of the type set I bought off Craigslist. I literally tore that thing apart to get a few of the coins out of it. This was one I was extremely pleased with. Not the greatest of photos to capture the toning but it still caught some of the pretty colors. I am always excited to try and contribute to this wonderful thread.

 

i don't know if there is a guideline. I have never been told that when I load my web files that there is any difference.

Bottom line, when you share an image there is such a mix of monitors and browsers if you saw the images on there screen you would think they are crap. There are just so many bad monitors out there. You just can't worry about what others see.

I had some people at my old office open my homepage there, I almost puked it was so bad.

 

This is in a PCGS Old Green Holder (MS65). I liked the little bit of blue toning on the obverse and reverse.
I bought it for well under the PCGS guide price, which is nice.

That is one of the finest Rossies I have ever seen. Just look at the reverse! I looks like the sun is shinning off the silver, and the lettering around the edge makes it look like it is snowing

Here is an interesting one. Problem is, this is what my photographs look like without any luster.

Well, the Obverse is no great shakes, but I saved this because of the reverse toning. Very subtle, but nice, IMO.
