As you all may know...eBay USED to be a nice place to buy coins, however every time I visit that site I get a sickening feeling in my stomach when I try to find coins. Here is a list of what needs to go, in no particular order. "Unsearched rolls." Especially the ones with a dime or a 3 cent on one end. No one in their right mind rolls these with each other! "Grandma's/ Grandpa's/ Long Forgotten coin collection." These are almost always dealers. They piece together crap that is old with some newer stuff. It's all in professionally done holders and such. "Conchos". These are buttons, they are not even real coins! If it ain't real, then don't post it in the US Coins Category, Does anyone else feel this way, or have something they would like to add?
I just narrow down my searches when lurking. Lately I've just been buying mint sets for rather cheap there.
there are a lot of great honest sellers on ebay- I buy from this one and they are tops http://www.ebay.com/sch/tazmicenter...89&pt=Coins_US_Individual&_trksid=p4340.l2562
Conchos are crafted from coins, as are many other items sold in the eBay coins category, like coin spoons, etc.
People have right to sell what they want my only gripe is ebay's filter and search mechanism is lacking. For example i cannot search multiple categories using the same filter nor does the search work across all ebay international categories.
To Danr, I agree, Taz is one of the better sellers. We have done business back and forth for years with absolutely no problems. There are reputable dealers and good deals on ebay. Just don't be stupit and you can do OK. Joe
Not the ones I've been seeing (and regularly reporting, apparently without much effect). This guy, for example, just keeps rolling along.
I would never buy anything over 99 cents from a seller who won't stand by their items. Any time I see the "no returns accepted" I move on.
Conchos made from fakes, wow. Reminds me of this hilariously dumb scam seller: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Coins-Paper...ef=1&_ssn=patscats1488&_trksid=p3911.c0.m1538 They've been at this for years, despite plenty of people calling them on their fake coins clustered with man-made deposits. The first few they sold actually went for a few hundred bucks each!
Ebay has had this type of stuff from the day they started. Actually the hobby has. Now they have enough rules to fill a book and they still can't control it all. I still like Ebay but a person sure needs to be careful. As far as getting sick. Have an extra keyboard and a bag on hand.:smile
This is detecto after buying unsearched rolls on ebay.
I made the mistake of buying one of these "unsearched rolls" a few weeks ago for my kids. Make no mistake they may not be searched by that person selling the roll but it was raped by the person he bought it from. 3 dates all the same mint marks for each date. I expressed my consern he said that doesn't mean anything to him. I said "$*&$" you and posted a nasty feedback for him. Over the next few days I was not the only on to his game several others left the same feed back and now his account is gone.
Well, with over 1400 seperate listings for "unsearched" rolls, the possibilities of finding key dates is unlimited! http://www.ebay.com/sch/Coins-US-/2...pt=Coins_US_Individual&_trksid=p3286.c0.m1538
