    Hello CT,

I have recently found an odd nickel. it is a 1982-D Jefferson nickel, but when dropped, it has a duller ring to it, and is actually ever so slightly thicker than an ordinary nickel. there is no extra metal around the outside, therefore the same size, except for the thickness. What is this? Could this be a quarter blank struck as a jefferson nickel?

Based on your description, sounds like you have the "chocolate" variety 1982 Jefferson. I hear you can only find them in stores like Cost Plus World Market and Safeway. They are tough to spot!!!

    Hey kookoox10,
could you find a picture of a true chocolate variety for me? i might be able to relate to that as i currently have no access to a camera.
    Thanks

No. It would be impossible for a quarter planchet (24.3 mm) to fit in the striking chamber for a nickel (21.2 mm).

Of course a nickel planchet can fit into a quarter press. :D

What does it weigh? If the weight is normal it may just be an internally flawed planchet, also known as a "dumb" planchet.
