To those that have read about this saga in the past, I apologize, but I will recap for the rest.

I have wanted to assemble a proof set from my birth year, 1962, but not just any set. I love cameo proof coins, and prior to 1973, they are the exception rather than the rule. So finding PF 67 or 68 Ultra Cameo coins is not an easy task. At first, i thought that I'd search proof sets and find them , and then I realized that it'd be far cheaper to just buy them certified. The problem is this: They just don't come available very often and you have to look and look and search.

This summer at the ANA, I was searching the bourse floor for a Lincoln Cent from NGC in in PF-68 UC, but to no avail. Rick Tomaska told me that he had one back in California and would part with it for around $300. That was a bit too much for my taste and I searched on. I found one a month or so ago in a PCGS slab PF-68 Deep Cameo and I figured it would cross over. When I received the coin, I found a green corrosion spot so I returned it.

Last night, I won another on Teletrade and it already in an NGC holdder in 68 UC, so bid and I won it for $80!!!! I am soooo ecstatic!!!

here's a link, tell me your opinions...

Now all I need is the Nickel in 68 UC (I have a 68 Cameo) and upgrade the half from 67 to 68, and I have the set that I have been assembling now for over 3 years completed!!! What an adventure this is turning out to be!!!

    Sweet!

You're right...they're very hard to come by. And you got a heck of a good price!

well, according to the NGC census from last July, there is a population of 87 at this grade with only 37 higher all of them in PF-69.

And yes, I think I got a real deal on this coin. I paid $130 for the PCGS ONE and IMHO, I think that NGC is harder on the Ultra Cameo designation

gonna need a bigger gun, though, the nickel has a population of 57

I agree 100% with this statement, NGC is much tougher than PCGS to get the DCAM/UC designation.
