The production of Native American dollars will be probably be cut drastically as well. I could see mintages of no more than 5 million for each President, and 4 million for each Native American dollar design.

Well, I am disappointed that the dollar bill won't be replaced anytime soon, but I'd imagine I could easily walk into a bank to acquire my weekly fix of the coins, even if I have to place an order for a box of 1,000 and go in every week to withdraw one roll at a time (who knows, I could search rolls of mixed dollars to find Loonies, NIFC pieces, and proofs)...

My guess is NA Dollar production will drop. The Mint is required to strike at least one NA Dollar for every four Presidential Dollars that it strikes. (In other words, NA Dollar production must equal at least 20% of total dollar coin production.) Federal Reserve Banks are not required to order NA Dollars so most of the NA Dollars that reach the public are obtained via the Direct Ship Program. In the future it may be possible that the Mint will produce NA Dollars to meet the demand of collectors and the Direct Ship Program. (That is unless the Mint discontinued the Direct Ship Program in its entirety after getting taken advantage of by people racking up frequent flyer miles on the credit cards when they ordered the coins.)

Why? I'll tell you why, because this country's government is populated with idiots who only care about their public careers and what profits they can extract from that career.

Shelving a program to save $50 million dollars over embracing a program which would save between $184 million and $500 million dollars a year is either idiotic or corrupt.

Same applies to the Native American dollars. I asked the Mint via facebook and they responded with such. Darn it! The 2012 design looked nice, now I'm gonna have to get them at more than face. :(

Unfortunately because we have idiots running the Gov't and nobody wants to take the bull by the horns and lead the way on that idea. It seems all they wanna do is argue amongst themselves and infuriate the public. :eek:I've said it once and I'll keep on saying it. Nothing will change until we all get together and throw them bums outta office. All of them!! :D

50 million in savings is a crock. The goobers spend more than that for lunches in a years time. Save me 50 billion and maybe I'll listen.......

I just can't get excited about these. Now, if they'd do commemorative presidential "dollars" in 90% silver...wouldn't that make a nice alternative to collecting ASEs? Perhaps nickel-sized, but thinner, with a $5 value... You could forget about Sacagewea, et al. since nobody's circulating those, either.

If you wish to fight this stupid political move and end production of the rag dollar, then contact your congress person and get them to co-sponsor H.R. 2977, then get it passed out of committee and voted on by the house and senate. if there are enough votes, it will not be vetoable by the POTUS.

I figured Garfield because he's last the one the series to come out. Arthur, Cleveland, Harrison and Cleveland were planned for 2012 but since they're suspending production that would make Garfield the last one released the last one.

Don't kid yourself. They're (mint) still gonna produce these for collectors.

Am I wrong in making the assumption that they may continue the program in the proof and mint sets... but are just ceasing the circulation production.

True but how many are going to want to pay 40 dollars for a 25 dollar roll.

To me the fun was finding the uncirculated rolls from the Bank at face value.

Good riddance. Total failure of a series. No one wants them to use.

If the US is going to get dollar coins to circulate, they have to take some other steps as well. For the most part the Sacs, which are not ugly, have the best chance of being used. If they would limit the amount made initially, so they are not just wasting space and resources, and take the dollar bill out of circulation, at some point, people will either start using coins for dollars, or they will go more to the cashless society we are getting to know very well. Either way, the Gov't will be able to decrease costs.
