I inherited a coin collection from my father, and one of the coins was an 1863 indian head penny. where it says " United States of America, the f is missing in the word of. It says " United States o America. Was there some grease on the die and the time of production? or what could this be?
    Thanks guys.

Yes, it could have been caused by a grease-filled die. Can you post a good photo?

Keep trying. In fact there's a test thread where you can go and post your attempts until you get it ok. I actually had a couple bad tries at first until I got it.

Also, there's a couple of threads that explain how to do it. I would like to see your coin.
