This is an ERROR spelling "Shoot him on the Spoot" 1863 Civil war token I bought at a local flea mkt they had no idea about the error.
Actually not an error in the strictest sense. Since it is in the die it is technically a variety. Still a fun find.
Not just a wrong spelling, but spelled correctly to imitate how a foreigner or someone with a certain regional pronunciation might actually say it. Interesting.
There are 10 different versions of this die (but only one with the mis-spelling.) They come paired with 8 different obv dies for a total of 20 different varieties, not including metal variations. This die, #414, comes paired with only one obv, #209, and comes in copper with an R2 rarity rating. Common but very popular.
I oown oone oof these tookens alsoo, but I never nooticed the erroor befoore. Thanks foor poointing that oout. Jooe
I didn't know that. Are any of the varieties particularly valuable? I ask because I own one of these with the correct spelling.
On ebay , they go for around $25-50 depending on who's bidding , like anything condition means a lot , I've seen the same as yours go for $75 but that is crazy ebay bidding . I love the spoot patriotic and still need to get one .
