We found a quarter that is gold on the face and silver on the back. It is a 1997 liberty minted in Denver. Does this have any value beyond the twenty five cents?
Welcome to CT, and yes like he said, pics help. Also, am I having a braing lapse, what is a 1997 Liberty quarter?
So sorry...I was busy listening to a conversation as I was typing, lol!! I meant just a regular old Washington quarter. I will try to take a picture but I'm not sure that the color's will show...we'll see, thanks!
It's worth 0.187667 Euros or 0.159561 GBP. Seriously, though, probably just $0.25. Oh, and welcome to CT.
Why would the face be gold? It is not painted, can not be scrapped off, and runs to the center of the coin then the silver begins for the back of the coin.
Sounds like one side was plated... Maybe someone was testing a new gold-plating kit they had purchased. To be certain, please provide us with photos ASAP. -Brian PS- :welcome: to CoinTalk!!!
Sounds like a plating job. Washington quarters are made of copper and nickle. Save for it being an uncirculated and grading higher than 64, it's worth $.25.
