Call me a fool, but it is hard for me to tell sometimes if toning is natural or not. At first glance this half appears to be artificially toned, but if it's natural.. What a half. I asked the seller, and this was his response. " All natural toning, from an old album." I am not trying to pull the wool over anyone here, this is not PCGS slabbed. ~ Jason
I'm sorry. If that is what the coin looks like than that is artificial. Either altered color or photo. It might have been dipped and retoned.
Best case scenario - re-toned after a dipping or cleaning. As or more likely - artificially toned. Either way, it looks extremely unnatural and I would avoid it. Additionally, the seller's response indicates that he is either unknowledgeable (and reckless in his response) or a liar.
Yes, thank you very much. I am just not at the ability to judge toning at this point. If you asked me about Dutches Ike, I would say AT as well. Shows what I know. I'll just avoid toned for the time being. The guy sent me another message, reassuring that it was natural. Hmmm ~Jason
Starts with a P something.. from Glenn Burnie MD. What a shame, that bust looks 55+ without the crap on it.
It's not a bad looking piece as far as detail goes. Most of the capped bust halves you see will have been cleaned at some point, or more likely many times, so that shouldn't be an issue in deciding to buy. Just don't pay toning premiums for a an AT coin. If he'll sell at XF details pricing you'll be fine. It'll retone naturally over time anyway. Guy
I wouldn't buy it at any price. Either you would have to dip it again losing further luster, or live with the AT. Either way its now a problem coin that could never be slabbed. I would say save your money for a problem free coin. Its one of the most common CBH's so its not like it will be hard to find a nice one. If you did buy it I would find someone who knows what they are doing and get a quick dip to remove the toning. Then put it in a manila envelope and let it lightly tone naturally. Chris
That's $30 over AU money from the latest NN. Crazy. Btw do you want the latest NN to use as a approximate price guide? I can mail it to you. PM me if you want it. Chris
