Driving too fast the other week and a bag of $500 in halves spilled over the passenger side floor. What a pain picking them all up. I guess if we are ever in a jam and need gas money I'm going to the seats to start looking. I'll at least be able to get a couple gallons worth. Another note: I can't remeber the last time I paid for gas with paper money.

anyone ever make friends with the person who services your local coinstar machines? lol... I'd love to buy bags of coins off THEM...

Most of the Coinstar machines reject silver so I would pass on those bags. I always check the reject slot for any coins but have yet to find any silver from a machine, Coinstar or Penny Arcade. I don't think the Penny Arcades in my area reject silver, which is kind of good because it makes it back into the system and hopefully back into one of my boxes.

I could live with that, It would have been nice if at least each box had something and not find 6 x 40%er in one box and the other 4 be skunk. That takes it's toll.

0.3617 ounce of silver for 50 cents? not to bad. In my book anthing that is not a skunk is a good day! I started about a month ago, have gone through thousands and have a little less than 3 oz of silver. I hope to start doing better, but even at that 36 free oz of silver a year is okay with me!

It's far from free. The cost of time, gas, getting rid of the byproduct (both the boxes/rolls and cashing in the change), and the opportunity cost of tying up cash in change, or having cash instead of money in your bank account to do other things with, IE pay bills or use your debit card instead of your credit card. Granted, most of the costs of this hobby are hidden, which makes them tough to realize and truly assess, but I think, generally speaking, we pay a good deal more than face for our silver, but still well under spot.

Well under spot is a good way to put it. For me it's a hobby/investment so the time is not really what I'm concerned with....It's the $3.50 gallon of gas to get back and forth to all of the dump banks! I spend alot more on gas nowadays carting all this clad around.

Yeah... what I wouldn't give to have been born 15 years earlier so I could do this in the mid-90's... complaining about how gas is $1.50 or something ridiculous... haha.

You know what? I see that my first reply to this thread never posted for some reason. What it said was: I was originally just searching pennies, and finding maybe 10 wheat per box. Culls, mostly, but good dates at least. Also maybe 10 or so possible errors I want to get checked out, total from all the boxes. On a whim, I got $500 of dime rolls to break away from the tedium of too many pennies... lol. In all those was 0 silver - no big surprise there. What WAS a surprise, was 2/3 of the way through searching all those rolls, there was a coin that wasn't a dime at all... it was a 1995 five-dollar gold eagle. 1/10th oz gold - my very first piece. Now I can't get enough pieces... lol. I buy it as often as I have some spare money, and almost have a full dime-roll of various countries' gold coins ;)

I've heard of $5 golds being found in dime rolls... the last one I heard about was a while back, though, congrats on that find.

Seriously! Wow...I have never heard of that. I have never seen a 1/10th gold coin before, so it is the size of a dime? I'll have to keep a look out for that. That is some good luck you got going there.

If gas was $1.50 a gallon I'd be on day long road trips every Saturday.

Hi guys, I've been stalking this thread for a few days now and decided to sign up!
I was wondering if you guys have had any trouble with certain banks fulfilling requests for boxes? I was going to go open a new account at a bank just so I can have them order coin for me but wasn't sure if maybe those particular banks had problems. I know each branch will be different etc. but I thought that perhaps if all I read were complaints about one, say, Bank of America, then maybe I'd open my account elsewhere. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I'm trying to decide between Bank of America and US bank in particular because there are a lot of branches from those two, near me.
    Thanks!
