Probably because he respects the capabilities of that particular craft back in the day. Lightly armored, it was no match for my P-38's firepower, however.....
Heck, I'd like a coin press. I'm very interested in coin design and aesthetics. BUT I decided some time back to drop my pursuit of a Peace Dollar set simply due to Chinese fakes. I'm bowing out of whatever areas in which they produce fakes.
Someone posted this film a while ago. I've watched it several times. Just fascinating! http://vodpod.com/watch/2892316-how...howing-gold-coins-being-made-12min-short-film
You all can relax now. There is no wok to huang. I am ghost writing. Huang Guangyu i is a corrupt Chinese businessman who is currently spending 14 years in prison. He used to be the richest man in China, and I am not him. Wok to is a Chinese triad in China town that I saw on the history channel. I certainly have no intentions of purchasing a printing press, and making reproductions. Initially I wanted to make a tactful post which would point out the hypocrisy of subjects dealing with altered coins. I could not understand why some western individuals are praised for such work, but you throw in a Chinese name and it has a negative connotation. The absurdity of the altered coin disturbs me to say the least. It was interesting to see reactions to this post.
I don't know what you think you accomplished. Less than 10% of the posts were knee-jerk reactions based on the avatar. The majority of the posts were more to educate or guide you than to disuade you. I think your intent for this thread is a FAIL.
If it showed even 1 person how their bias (automatic reaction) could influence their comments or thoughts and made them consider changing that - it was a success. Purely my opinion of course.
haha. I was fairly convinced until I click on is profile page and his hobbies were woman, boats, and airplanes.
I think it unusual for a person come here asking for help to create counterfeit anythings! My thinking has nothing to do with an avatar or a name.. sortof like asking for help robbing a bank. To me anyway. Now it's even worse.. a set-up! I could be wrong? Lucy
Is it wrong Lucy for someone to ask how the find a press to create replicas ? There's quite a difference between replicas and counterfeits. There is a huge market for replica coins. And even though I don't like them myself, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with somebody else liking them. I think some of us made an assumption that the gentleman was wanting to produce counterfeits - not replicas. And I rather think his name, his avatar had a good deal to do with forming those assumptions. But then you know what is said about the word assume. Something we are all guilty of at one time or another.
you have a point there. I went to the Philadelphia Mint on July 23rd. (a Saturday, less going on during the weekends to boot?) The BEP isn't open at all on weekends, I toured DC on Monday the 25th. i liked that one a little better, but similar thoughts apply (I lived in the DC area this summer - I went on a weekend excursion that included the Philadelphia Mint, and saw the BEP and a couple other DC things on the way home Monday)
