I feel that the United States needs a new dime design, with a bald eagle. The quarter no longer has an eagle on it's reverse and the half dollar is not used much by the general public. The bald eagle was a threatened species at one time, symbolizing the Great Depression and the tough economic times we face today. The bald eagle has repopulated very much since threatened in 1995. Now, it is of the least concern for extinction. This symbolizes how the economy recovered in the '30's and how it hopefully will again in the near future. The dime has remained unchanged since 1948, so I'm creating a design. I'm placing a close-up of a bald eagle on the reverse, leaving the words "ONE DIME" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" where they are now. Then, I'll center "E·PLURIBUS·UNUM" below "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" in smaller letters. I need an idea of what to place on the obverse. No dead presidents. Also, when I'm finished with the design, who should I contact? ~gecko
Do you have an picture of what you are designing to show us? *The half dollar was changed in 1948, not the dime
You can always get a Ronald Reagan novelty dime from eBay, one of the reasons I'd not want him on there. People would mistake the novelty dimes online for real ones. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ronald-Reagan-1-Gram-Fine-Silver-Dime-Size-2006-Silver-Round-Bullion-Great-Gift-/170733254719?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c07eb83f
5 required phrases on a Dime: LIBERTY(obv.) IN GOD WE TRUST(obv.) UNITED STATES OF AMERICA(rev.) E·PLURIBUS·UNUM(rev.) ONE DIME(rev.)
Not trying to beat a dead horse, but: 1) The obverse portrait is poor on that coin. 2) The reverse hasn't changed. If they made a new dime, the reverse would change. 3) And finally, that 'coin' is .999 silver, so there is no chance it will circulate with a new Reagan dime. Therefore I see no reason to 'fear' that coin being confused with a new official design.
I, too, agree that we should use more of Lady Liberty, but I think reusing a design is foolish. Why not come up with your own art? Also, I beleive they will be using the Merc design for a palladium bullion coin.
I think the only silver ones were the privately minted ones that were linked above. If the government were to start a new design, I'm positive they wouldn't change the composition of the dime back to silver because the silver content would be worth more than the dime itself.
I am definitely bored with the current dime design and want them to do something different. They've done changes for pennies, nickels, and quarters. It's time to do something new with the dime.
