My new one is just your average Stone Mountain but I like it. It was an ebay pickup for under $60.00. That makes it easy to like.:smile
This is one of those difficult to photograph coins but you can get some idea of the color by these reflected-glare iPhone images. I just love toning like this. It almost looks like molten metal from certain angles ... putting the obtuse thought in your head ... is this coin cool to the touch? ... or heated to 5000 degrees F like a red-hot poker?
Was able to snipe this one in the last 3-seconds of an eBay auction this evening... http://www.ebay.com/itm/220900350601?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649&autorefresh=true ... Photos were a bit dark, which probably scared away a few potential bidders, but I could tell this thing had a clean cheek. Being CAC'd also helped in my decision to bid. I was surprised with the realized price of this one... Thought it'd bring more for the "black-and-white" contrast, but I guess everyone was asleep at the keyboard this evening. Too much Thanksgiving turkey, perhaps? . . . Got this one a couple of days ago in a late-night/early-morning eBay "Buy-it-Now" listing... http://www.ebay.com/itm/260899968516?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Got this one for a steal, IMO! Had it in my "Watch List" since day one when the "Buy-it-Now" price was set at $127.00. Well, that same night, I guess the seller was lookin' to make a quick buck, so he dropped the price to $99.00. The grade NGC has designated is, IMO, very conservative. The strike is fantastic... The cheek is nice... No deep abrasions whatsoever. Not too sure what held it back, especially having prooflike (nearly DMPL) contrast on the obverse, and a semi-prooflike reverse. You typically see 1879, 1880, and other mid-1880's San Francisco Morgans with contrasting surfaces, as well as being "starred" by NGC, but seldom do you see one dated 1878. So, being CAC'd, being "starred", and having contrast, I simply couldn't pass-it-up. Hope to have these imaged with Todd (blu62vette) of BluCC Photos in the upcoming week. Never imaged with Todd, but I hear he's the go-to-guy for quality coin imaging. By the way, Todd, gorgeous '81-S Doily Dimple :thumb:! Thanks and God Bless, Brian
I would guess that it was the 4 feedback and only one transaction in the last year and 4 transactions since 2002 is why more people didn't bid. Hope all goes well
Yes, both of what you have said did have me a bit worried, but you have to take a few risks in life, don't ya? I had been messaging the seller of the '85 64DPL before his listing ended just to ask a few questions regarding shipment, and it all seemed good-to-go. Thanks for the kind words as well. -Brian
