I just received an email from Scott Semans that David Hartill, (of the excellent Cast Chinese Coinage fame), has written a book on pre-meiji Japanese coins. From the reviews this is supposed to be THE English reference for these coins. If anyone is interested I would suggest contacting Mr. Semans to get on the list. They are expected in Dec 7th.

Mr. Hartill's first book was truly a great addition. Low cost, and thorough, it is now the standard for this series. Personally I would expect this new volume to equally as good. I think the cost is about $20 delivered in the US.

I wasn't even aware of the first book, so for me this post is a double-whammy (the good kind). =)
$20 seems like a really good deal on a specialized reference book. I don't generally handle these types of coins, but at that price ya can't go wrong.

Mat, if you like Chinese Cash, there is not better English language resource I could recommend than Hartill's Cast Chinese Coinage, and its only about $40. If you only have one book on them, it should be that one. Mr. Semans carries it as well I believe, if not I have other dealers who do. Just let me know.

Btw Scott is a great dealer in Chinese coins and other reference books as well. His website is www.coincoin.com.

I ordered it about 3 minutes after I got the email from Scott describing it!

Thanks for the tip, and link. =)

BTW, my name is Dmitry. My id is numismat because numismatist was already taken when I started getting on to the forums. I figured this was a short version of the same thing, but it only seems to confuse people.

Well good to know Dmitry. I have problems with people knowing what my name is so I sign posts every once in a while. It might help. :)
