Hi. My dad won this Franklin Half dollar at coin club yesterday, and I was wondering if this is worth submitting to a TPG? Also, What is your opinion on grade?
I personally say no only because even in a MS65 grade it only commands only a small premium over melt value.
Nice coin. Probably MS64 and doesn't look full bell lines so not really worth the money to submit. Enjoy it!
It isn't even slabbed, It is in a 2x2 plastic and the grading is on the paper Not ANACS it is ANICS. I thought it was pretty accurate too but wasn't sure.
It's very nice, but the thing is there's a lot of nice ones left. 63 was the last year of them so I think a lot of them were saved in high grades.
You could try running it through PCGS or NGC on "walkthrough"--then it might grade MS65, could also try designation or variety review, they might find something rare. :rollling::thumb:
I think there are too many marks on the coin to get it over MS-63, so the submission cost could end up being higher than the coin's value in an MS-63 slab.
Cannyn, Are you sure it isn't ANACS? It could be just a typo, but it sounds like it might be one of their early "photo certs". If it is, there are many collectors who like these old certs and they can be worth a slightly better premium. Can you post photos of the entire holder? Chris
I would grade it MS63, not FBL Side note: It looks like that ANICS doesn't grade coins from MS60 all the way to MS70, just 60, 63, 65
I have a Franklin graded by NGC as MS61 and I have Morgans that are graded MS61 & MS62, but I don't think I've ever seen anything graded MS60. Chris
I had to read over it several times to understand what you mean. What I meant was ANICS, not NGC and PCGS.
Off Topic! Need to be careful how you post'em, cause we read'em the way you post'em. On to the subjuct! 1963 half not worth the price to certify it. Has to be a very high grade with FBL. Bob
