    THIS IS JUST AN IDEA!
    SO FAR...

Since we are on the idea of contests, I was pondering what it would be like to have a Christmas contest where everybody who wants to enter gives a coin or a coin lot into a large prize, with one central holder who is not part of the contest (Preferably a trustworthy senior member), and the person can divide the lot of coins into a 3 large prizes (1st 2nd and 3rd) and then has a bunch of smaller prizes for the next 5 runners up. Pretty much, your coin donation is your raffle ticket.. Of course you can't put that grimy green zinc penny that is worth nothing at all because stores won't take it it is so disgusting, but the coin has to have a small premium. For every two numismatic dollars a coin is worth, the entrant may get 1 ticket in the raffle And the winners can be posted one business week before December 25th in order to get the prizes in time for the season. Any senior members wanna take me up on this idea? If you send coins into the "pool" I would kindly ask that you send both me and the Senior Member what you are sending, value (We will look up) and if possible pics.

If Any people wanna take the responsibility, talk to me. Or else I might be the one holding the contest. I would prefer somebody else doing this because I want to be a winner  If you want to do it, I would require you to keep all paperwork of who sent the coins, what they sent, when they sent it, when you received it, Graded/Raw and what it is worth. PO Box preferred unless you are fine with giving your home address away.

Inbox me if you are interested in taking the role of middle-man

Post something on this thread if you are interested in entering the contest.
Note: You are not guaranteed to win, but you are guaranteed a chance in the raffle

    Thanks,
    Cannyn

Sounds like alot of work. BUT, sounds like alot of fun too. I'd be interested in entering for sure. Need some kind of perk for the Senior Member/record keeper though.

Yeah, I thought that over. I may be able to work something out with them too.

What I am thinking is a certain Percentage of numismatic value as a cut. I am not thinking high but fairly low as I believe this will be a great contest.

There's probably a much simpler way to go about it, but yes, it sounds like it'd be a blast! Once the kinks are worked out and it is settled as to whom we will ship our entries (prizes) to, I'd be happy to contribute. :)

You and I are here on the west coast right now and most of the CoinTalk members east of us are probably in bed this time of night. You'll probably be getting more responses tomorrow.

Haha, Good point. I have already made the mistake of not counting the time difference in time zones with those east coasters. Speaking of bed, Imma hit the sack as well, school in the morning.

I am going to bring this idea up to my local coin club tomorrow too to see if they might be interested in joining, becoming a member, and entering this contest. Or maybe if they want to do this separately as well just in the coin club.

    No offense people..........

...........and you can call me a Grinch or whatever other name you choose to use which is permissible under our forum rules.........

...........but I am opposed to any form of contest that requires the participants to "donate" anything for the opportunity to play.

Cannyn, I know your heart is in the right place, but if someone wants to conduct a contest, I think they should be responsible for providing the prizes and overseeing the results themselves without compensation or donations of any kind from the participants.

This is just my Improperly Cleaned 2c worth!

This sounds like it would be a blast to have a contest. I would be in for sure and would try to get some more enthusiasm with my coin friends. Just let me know what to do and I'm there so ten minutes ago!

    Chris,
I totally respect your opinion and will take it into consideration. I put this up to hear everybody's two cent's worth before I hold the contest. I know where you are coming from, and I totally respect it.

I'm all about it man. Say for instance if the coin value to contribute would be like $10 dollars worth, with an opportunity to win a prize of of $250, I would gladly participate. You could make a video of the raffle drawing. It would be exciting to see the results. I like the idea of a Christmas raffle. If you don't want in, there are plenty of other contests out there.

I will gladly make and post a video of the raffle drawing. I am going to ask if I can borrow the raffle tumbler from coin club tonight for just this contest. I pan on doing a raffle, but haven't gotten any senior members interested, I will wait until Thanksgiving day for somebody to do so, but if nobody takes, and there are a lot of people interested, I will take over the position. I know this is a lot of responsibility and some may not like the idea, but some see this as opportunity to expand their collections. Thanks for your input JCB! -Cannyn

Technically, this would be considered gambling because you are requiring participants to "donate" an item of value in order to play.

I got a great idea! Everybody picks a coin worth between $5-10 and doesn't tell anybody else. Then there is a big mixing pot and everyone who entered gets an address of someone else who entered! Like a secret Santa for coins!

If I were you, I would suggest that on JCB's contest Idea post. I do like the secret Santa Idea.

For what it is worth, we used to swap gifts at Christmas on the NGC forums. Everyone who was interested in participating would submit their name, each person would have the name of another participant drawn at random to send a gift to, no one would receive a gift from the person they sent one to and there was a $25 limit on the value of each gift.
