    IMG_0001.JPG IMG_0002.JPG IMG_0003.JPG IMG_0004.JPG Hello,

I am selling some Morgan's for my aunt on ebay,(she needs the cash) Can anyone tell me if this is an error coin and if so what type and how much is it worth.

The rim seems worn down but looks odd to me.
    Missing letters on the reverse.

    Thanks!

I can't be certain, but it looks like a cast fake to me. Do you have a scale to weigh it?
Did you try the "ring test"?

I was thinking the same thing Chris. The rim makes me want to say counterfeit, but I suppose it could just be heavily damaged (by some acid).

It passes the ring test but weighs a little light 26.2 compared to 26.6 from another Morgan.

That's fake. It looks like lead rather than silver.

Just do a 1881 Morgan search on eBay & compare your Aunt's coin to the pics there. Just doesn't look the same

I am sure that you are correct that it is a fake, the weights not right and it just looks wrong compared to the others I have. I am sure glad I joined this forum you all have been very helpful. I look forward to more coin talk but hopefully next time I will have something good to share.
