    Hi All ...

I am new to collecting coins.. Figure I would start with a type set .... I amnot really looking at it from an investment stand point and prefer the Albums to slabs.

That being said I still would like an album that will store the coins with the least amount of damage.

I have read that the Dansco is the best looking but can tone coins.. Seems that Intercept Shield might be the way to go.

Is it True Dansco Discontinued the 7070 and is coming out with a new type set album?

Can't find a 7070 anywhere one supplier said a new version coming soon, but couldn’t give me a release date. I figure it this is true they probably will address the toning issue. And maybe it pays to wait and see, as Dansco seems like a company that isn’t going anywhere.

Intercept Shield ...Most suppliers are discontinuing them because of production problems...If you call the manufacturer you get the feeling they have one foot in the grave. So updating in the future might be a problem.

Well I don't know the skinny on dansco products seeing as how they don't have an official website. I ended up buying two on the bay and got a great deal on them seeing as they were used. Old ones too, maybe 20-25 years old.

The 7070 is my favorite album! I wonder what they could replace it with since it covers most of the type coins. I haven't heard anything about it. But one thing they might do could be like the whitman type sets I have. They are split into two albums, small coin type set and large coin type set. The whitman small coin alone has more holes to fill then the entire 7070. They have more varities and much more rare/expensive coins are needed to complete it.

Thats terrible if they did discontinue Dansco 7070's. i would stock up on remaining inventory.

OP, I think its a great decision to start on a type set. I always recommend that for beginners.

While I like you wanting to go the album route, have you also considered 2x2 flips in pages? They will not tone your coin, and basically you decide what is a "complete" set and not an album manufacturer. The main thing I do not like about albums is that they decide what holes to put in there, and people never think its "done" until all of the manufacturers holes are filled. Also, there is no room for other additions you wish to make. I personally like the freedom of making your own "albums".

Hey ..ThanksFor replies... Seems I might have a scoop on the news...just remember if ithappens, you heard it here first LOL...If it doesn’t happen. Remember, don'tbelieve everything you read.

My interested has peaked in starting a collection since getting a few of the 25th Anniversary American Eagle sets. I have some other Mint Sets but was mainly buying for investments. I am a stacker at heart, mainly Silver, Gold and Platinum American Eagles.

I have considered flips ...But at the level I am right now I don't mine themanufactures suggestions as to what a type set is, and I really Like the way anAlbum looks. If it becomes more of aninvestment type thing I will make adjustments as to storage accordingly.

If they are planning on changing the 7070 it is probably to add more of the recent types. After all when does the current 7070 end, and how many new types have been issued since then?

Wouldn’t theyjust add pages in that case? I was hoping they would follow Intercept Shieldslead and perhaps use their technology to prevent toning.

So no one has connections or an understanding to the mysterious ways Of Dansco. If they are planning a change I have to give them credit, they can keep a secret. Maybe we should let them handle U.S. intelligence

Another cool option for Dansco is to offer a "fully customizable" album service. Give them the specs of what would be your ideal type set and they'll custom make for you. They can charge the standard price plus maybe $15 for the customization fee. Either way, they'll make more money, diversify their product offerings, and they will gain huge amounts of referrals as a result. The cool part is, every album would be custom tailored and unique. I dreamt of a custom capped bust type set for a while.

They could but that would eventually break things up too much. When they added the page for the Bicentennials that broke it up so all the quarters were no longer together, same for the halves and the dollars. Now they would need another page that would break up the one cent, five cent, and further break up the quarters and dollars. (I am assuming two new cent holes, one for the Lincoln bicentennial, and one for the shield cent, and new hole for the 2004,05 bicentennial and one for the post 2005 nickel, a new hole for state quarters and one for ATB quarters. I think the 7070 had an SBA hole but now it would need one for the Sac, the President, and NA dollars. Nine new holes. Better to put them where they belong and not just another page.) Better they release an updated 7070 that has the holes rearranged and all the series back together again.
