Just a few errors I've hung onto that are now moving on so I can buy some more coins for my son (My up and rising coin collector).

Nice broad-struck, capped nickel! These should do real well. =)

Never sold on here, and it's hard to put an actual value on errors. EBay lets me see how high they will go instead of me asking ridiculous amounts or asking much less than what they could have brought. I guess I could list a few with an OBO price?

    Hello CharlesNC,

I just saw your three photos & thought I should comment on the quarter. It looks like the clip may have been made after the strike (outside of the mint).

#1 There is no weakness in the rim opposite the clip. This weakness is most often caused when the blank runs through the upsetting mill (before the strike). It is called the Blakesley effect. Just because your coin doesn't have the Blakesley effect doesn't mean it is not a real clip. It is just an indication that it is not a real clip.

#2 There is no spreading of the design elements toward the clip area. Normally the pressure of the strike would cause some of the metal at the clip to flow toward the void area & I see no metal flow in that direction.

#3 The clip looks to be perfectly circular & I would normally expect some metal to flow into the clip area during the strike.

From all of these indicators I think that the clip may be post mint. This is my opinion from the photo & obviously I would need to see the coin in hand to be more certain.

    Very best regards,
    collect89

I agree, that one looks a little iffy.
The more I look at it though, the reverse rim does show some weakness.
    I'm undecided.
