Yeah but it only took Clay a few minues to explain it and be helpful and make an interesting conversaton piece. Unless I'm mistaken, I thought that's what this forum was mainly meant for anyways; for people to come on here and learn from each other. Them old books are SO 2 decades ago!
Here are my newest additions to the error note collection. I finally got them in the mail from Heritage today. My favorite is the star note cutting error as everyone knows stars are replacement notes, yet this is an error anyway. Enjoy!
I like them a lot Doctor. Congrats on your new pickups. By the way, did you make it to the Baltimore show? I was going to go with Merlin but we both had things come up that prevented us from going...maybe next time. We have a monthly show here in Burlington so will probably go to that in December. Bruce
Nice pick ups, Matt. I sure would like to get my error note collection going. At the time, I don't have any significant error notes. They are just so darn expensive! I have had real great oppertunities to grab some real nice ones for cheap but something always prevented the deal from happening. -Travis
Auction Pick-up I was out in the far west side of Chicago at an auction in Naperville/Aurora Illinois today. I picked this up while there. One of the motivations was my daughter lives in Batavia and I am familiar with the local area. Not a bad turn out. They take a full page ad in Coin World and draw from a tri-state area for attendance. Plus they have live auction coverage on the internet. He has grown into a very complex operation.
yah I found a star note cutting error also when I worked at the bank and have the note before and after it also! (well the stars before and after not reg notes) it's sweet I think one of those is even an error also since it seemed to be a bit longer than the rest length wise.
No Bruce, I was unable to attend Baltimore this year due to all of the expenses I had in the past few months (including online note purchasing!). Maybe next year I'll be able to make the trip down there and check it out. You said a show in Burlington is next for you and that they have it monthly. Any particular dates? I might be willing to make the 2 hour trip some time. Thanks Travis. I have been able to get nice examples of most of my error notes and am currently trying to get one example of all known errors. It takes a while to get the major ones, but I think that the best way to get the collection is to start that way. Now if I could only find a nice insufficient inking error or a blank back/face one.
Red Seal $5.00 Bills Hello all, Can anyone give me some advice about these bills I collected and if they are worth more than the $5.00 face value. I'm a coin guy but ask for interesting stuff while dumping my coins and came across these. Thanks HOTN
The one on the bottom looks the best and could bring around $15. As for the other two, there are some issues that prevent them from being worth as much, but still worth around $9-$11 each.
Thanks for the information. I would like to know a little more about bills and their worth. Is there any websites you can suggest where you get your information from? Thanks HOTN
Good eye, the one on the bottom is the nicest of them and does not appear to have any folds and in very nice condition. HOTN
How about these? Could I expect to get a couple dollars for each one? They are in decent condition. HOTN
