Help - 2004 Wisconsin P Die Chip?

Hello - not familiar with errors but was working on a birth year set for my son and cant seem to find any 2004 Wisconsin state quarters in MS67. So, I bought a bank roll of the quarters and searched through them, looking for the best and intend to send into NGC.

However, as I was going through them, almost all have a weird "splotch" between the ear of corn and the face of the cow. Is this a Die Chip? On some it goes down under the cows nose also?

If it is a Die Chip, should I check "Mint Error" service in my NGC submission or "Variety Service"?

    Any help is appreciated.

Looks more like a strike through than a die chip

Could be a strike through, but then wouldn't the design elements (leaf on corn stalk) have also been struck through? I thought maybe a rusted die, but the "splotch" would be elevated, correct? One thing's for sure; That's no die chip.

Could it be grease on the die or a stuck broken piece of planchet?

Is it gradeable as is or should I check the "mint error" box on the submission form? Is this type of mint error valuable to error folks?

    Help....

Struck through debris. No real premium on it. It isn't worth spending money on to get it graded. Not a big demand for these with error collectors.

It wouldn't affect the devices because they are below the surface of the die (everything is reversed on the die).

Ikandigit - thanks. Any chance I could still pull an ms67 with one of the better ones or will that completely ruin the grade and knock it down?

Personally, I wouldn't bother. But get opinions from a few others before deciding.

Ordinarily, I would tell you not to waste your money having it certified, but since you need this for a Birth Year set, it is a different story. However, I don't recommend paying for the error service because what you've found is very common and won't command a premium. The recessed areas in the field are the result of debris-filled grease falling from the die and causing a strikethrough. The filled die chip between the leaf and the ear of corn is also very common. You would certainly be wasting your money paying for the error service for both of these.

We'd need to see good photos of the entire coin.

Chris - here are some more photos of the coin - (I am not a great coin photographer!) :)

I didn't notice the two spots on the Obverse until I photographed it. Do you think it could be "MS 67 MINT ERROR STRUCK THRU DEBRIS"?

Will also post photos of the two others I am considering sending in that don't show the error.

Here is another coin that I am considering sending in looking for MS67 - has a line on the left of the obverse but great coin in my opinion other than that:

Finally, the other nice coin from the roll I am considering - coin 3.

Are any of these candidates for MS67 at NGC? Thanks for all your help - Justin
