Since I don't have a high quality camera at the moment, I decided to make a quick video of my collection. I am fairly new to the world of coins, but have made occasional posts about my recent finds. This video is about 12 minutes. The first couple minutes is mostly my U.S. Silver, followed by world coins, and finally my higher value treasures. I decided to make this video because it has been hard for me to get good camera shots. I am also looking forward to seeing pictures/videos of your collection, and hearing some feed-back. I also made a video of my world bank notes, and will be posting within a couple of days. Thanks for viewing.

Oh and I couldn't get a good shot of my 2 over 1 1942 merc, but here is a decent shot of the 1855 3 dollar

Hey nice video! Thanks for sharing. That 42 over 1 is a dream find! I'd keep it in an air-tite in the mean time. That way it's less likely to get mixed in and easier to handle.

If you want to take decent pics, get any camera that will accept attachments and then get a basic macro lens for it. It doesn't have to be expensive. This lens becomes the camera's magnifying glass. Then you can zoom in with macro, manually focus and physically move the camera forward and back until you have a razor sharp image of a mint mark filling the whole screen if you want. IME, most basic cameras don't handle the real closeups very well using their own lense.

I use a Canon S3, tensor light and set the white balance to a blank sheet of paper. What the camera sees as white has to be set under every type of lighting. And try not to mix two types of lighting, including daylight. It will screw up the color. Don't have a room light on over your photo light in other words. This is just the basic advice I always give. These two issues are half the battle. Then you just have to get the right angle so you don't put a shadow over the coin. Photo editing programs will put the final touches on if you want to take the time. Photoscape, even in photobucket, the editing options (especially auto-fix) can improve a photos quality quite a bit.

Really, the way to go is a 'good' camera and a copy stand with good lights on the sides. That's the best possible result. But I'm happy enough with my own results to where it's not worth it to upgrade at this point.

That is one heck of an inheritance! Quite an amazing collection there too. I love those old coin albums too. Very beautiful collection and I am totally jealous that I won't be inheriting my grandparents' collection. Totally jealous!

LTB thanks for pointing that coin out for me. It does have some nice eye appeal. I guess I thought it was junk, because it was a commemorative coin. I'll be sure to set it aside.

Here's a video my friends and I shot a few years ago. Has nothing at all to do with coin collecting, but rather another of my hobbies -- tarpon fishing.....

Thanks for sharing Caz. I really liked the columbia halves, and the Bahamas 5 dollar. Never seen one before. You are a lot more oganized than I am.

Lead that tarpon fishing looks like a blast.

    Here's some of my pics.

This is the first coin I bought back in 2008 when I officially got back into collecting as an adult. CBH 1820 over 19 Curl base 2. It's well worn and scratched but it was a lower mintage at 751,122 and it is one of three varieties from that year. Not something you run across every day. I thought it was neat.

Here's my avatar. AU-53 $5 I picked it up at the ANA Worlds Fair over in Rosemont a couple months ago.

    Old avatar. 1938-D/S NGC MS-66

Picked this up there as well. 1913 raised ground MS-65 for the album.

Recent ebay pickup for the album:

Had this re-graded at the ANA show. Went from an old PCGS MS-60 slab to a new NGC MS-62. I thought it would get a 63 for sure.

Here's a pic I took of the mint mark on this $5. It looked like an S over small O variety to me but David Lange looked at it in hand and said it wasn't.

This is the silver 3 cent I got for my US type set. Size comparison I did since it's really hard to judge from pics for people that have never seen one in hand.

It has a good die clash on both sides. Relatively common on these I believe.
